Adding an extra year is the only hope a team like us has of getting Carlos guys. You pay extra on the back hoping he's good on the front.

Wouldn't they need to trade billy to free up the money for Carlos () though?

Yeah, you have to keep Butler for this to make sense.
When one person, for whatever reason, has a chance to lead an exceptional life, he has no right to keep it to himself.

Or we could just pull up our britches and have a major league payroll!  Wouldn't that be fun

I'm all for it, but I'm afraid it'd greatly diminish the return we get for Billy

what is everyone's expected return for butler?

I would be happy with a solid B to B+ prospect at a decent defensive position and/or two solid B arms.

why would this be about that song? the two have absolutely nothing in common.

Even that's wishful thinking, in my mind.  You can literally only trade the guy to one of 7, maybe 8 teams in Major League Baseball.

beltran isn't worth 3/48.  that would be a poor use of the money.  and if they trade butler to facilitate it...  ridiculous.
