So sys, i should plan for a better year in 2014 or worse year?  Playoffs would be cool.

i don't know anything about baseball, i just like it when the royals win.

smart people seem to think worse, though.  but maybe detroit and cleveland won't do quite as well.

Have to improve at 2B and RF to do better, and have Duffy healthy. Hosmer hits like he can, Cain stays healthy, yeah we can be better.

we need to trade holland. his value will never be higher.

but we won't

They better not because when Kelvin Herrera pitched in the 2011 Futures Game in Arizona (Herrera gave up a HR in the game) the announcers said that he is the Royals future closer. Can you imagine if Herrera would be the Royals closer? Holland has been awesome & will continue to be awesome next year. Besides what do you think the Royals would even get for him in a trade?

Well it wouldn't be Herrera in that role. We have a lot of bullpen arms. With the right team you could get a 2B or RF, or a young elite prospect. Holland has a team friendly contract and has been the best closer in the MLB.

Look at what we got for Soria. Nada.

i may be wrong, but it seems to me like you get about the same value when you trade a guy with years of control vs when you trade him at the deadline 1.5 or 0.5 from being a free agent.  if that's vaguely accurate, might as well just keep him until then.

oth, if someone offers something great now, take it.

No team out there will trade the Royals a MLB ready 2nd baseman or RF for just a closer. You will get a prospect & that is always hit or miss & lets face it with the Royals it will be a miss because the Royals don't do a great job developing talent very often (look at Hosmer & how long it took him to play at his potential & look at Moose).

Yes Herrera has suck this year & would not be the closer next year, but who else could be the closer? Crow? Crow has been flirting with disaster all year & his WHIP is too high to be a closer. The only other 2 options would be Hochevar (that would be hit or miss even after the year he has had) & Louis Coleman (Yost doesn't trust his low ERA & WHIP for whatever reason).

The one person that I would shop at this point in a trade is Billy Butler, the 2012 Butler will never happen again. Butler doesn't have the power at Kaufman & Butler is useless on the bases. If the Royals keep Butler next year they need to move him down in the order to the 5th or 6th spot in hopes that someone is on base & Butler can hit a single or a double to drive them in.

Hoch is the correct answer. I'm not advocating trading Holland just to trade him, but our attitude with Soria was he was untouchable and it was a blunder.
