Cain has made several plays this year just by getting a great read & jump off of bat contact. No they weren't diving catches, but still very good plays nontheless.

I had no issue with Cain last night. I was more disappointed in Alexander throwing a fat 1-2 pitch.
Alexander has been really good this year, but has struggled more of late

2 guys in the Bullpen who have been very good for us, but are trending in different directions right now.

Alexander: last 14 Appearances, 19H 12BB 7ER in 17.0 innings. That's a high WHIP. His first 17 appearances his WHIP was 1.00

Moylan: last 16 Appearances, hitters are only 4-47 (4 singles) and 5 BB.

I'm ok with Danny always being smugsy pants because I think he is IRL a giant smugsy pants. His wife is an opera singer and he enjoys classic films and fine dining. Soren is just a fantasy football playing chubby guy wearing cargos and sporting a goatee. Its forced.

Word.

it's perfectly reasonable for fans to be upset about cain's play last night.  it wasn't a particularly hard play (at least in terms of getting to the ball, obviously i have no idea how hard it was to watch the ball get hit by a bat and then judge where it was going to end up going).  assuming it wasn't getting pushed around unusually by weird winds or something it was a play most centerfielders would make.

now moose on foul balls is a lollable effort situ.  i don't particularly blame him for being gun shy of those plays with his impending free agency, but it's still lollable.

cain still crashes into walls on the reg, and is on pace for his most games in a season by far

I think if Gordon backs off sooner Cain gets into position and makes the play. I'm fine with saying he made a bad play, I'm not fine with accusing Lorenzo Cain of lacking effort.

It's a play he usually makes but he didn't, but I don't fault effort. Also Gordon was less part of the play than I originally thought.

And yeah, Cain made this play the previous night.

He's still one of the top 5 defensive CFs in baseball, you don't do that by playing lazy.

Complaining about Cain's defensive is a great measuring stick for finding dumbs. In the past I've used people who don't think Cueto was any good or Yordano haters or people who complained about the Royals striking out too much. Great to add another tool to the toolbox.

last night was v helpful in separating the wheat from the chaff.

idiots: WHERE WAS CAIN'S EFFORT?
studs: uhm he IRL robbed a guy of a home run literally one game previous

I may have misunderstood what was being referenced about the Cain defense comments. I thought you two were making reference to this thread and not Twitter.

I can't imagine caring what some guy with a goatee and cargo shorts thinks about Lorenzo Cain's effort in center field. It must be exhausting.

Soren spent 5 straight months attempting to shame his garbage collection service on twitter so good luck to you all but he isn't a normal human being.

Any reason on putting Gordon in Center over Melky? I'm a huge Alex homer so of course this would be my vote, but is he actually a significantly better OF or is this a contract/respect choice?
