One of the problems here is that, as bad as he’s been, it’s hard to imagine Escobar’s offense getting much better. Most times, when guys have horrendous offensive seasons, you can say, meh, just an off year. Escobar is more than 4,000 plate appearances into a career that says he’s closer to this than he is the guy who hit .293 back in 2012.Escobar isn’t just the worst everyday hitter (by OPS) in baseball this year. He is also the worst since the beginning of last year, the third-worst since the beginning of 2014, and the worst since the beginning of 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010, which was his first year as a regular.Even with a hit Monday night, he is the runaway leader in outs across baseball, and, according to the awesome Baseball-Reference, is on pace to make more outs* than anyone since at least 1901.* Escobar has made 220 outs, comfortably ahead of current runner-up Matt Kemp’s 207. This makes a pace for 566 outs on the season, which would knock Omar Moreno’s 560-out season in 1980 off the top line.Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/sam-mellinger/article83664897.html#storylink=cpy
