The royals and Kennedy have long been rumored so there is obviously a lot that the royals/Eliand like about him. If the last three years truly are player only options then it does seem a little weird. I had just assumed it was front loaded with team options or something so the royals could try and stay really competitive the next two years.

Thought year three was a mutual, and 4/5 was a one time player option

If you've been paying attention to statistical projections this winter, then you know that once again, some metrics suggest the Royals will be a sub-.500 team. I'm not smart enough to understand why it is that Kansas City's model doesn't seem to translate well in these metrics. Maybe they don’t take into account the true impact of a home ballpark that protects and cultivates pitchers, or maybe they don't measure the culture of loyalty that has developed within the organization.

Whatever.

The Royals are an excellent team toughened by their postseason experience, right in the middle of their window of opportunity. It will not be easy for another American League Central team to knock off a club that makes few mistakes defensively, and has arguably baseball's best reliever in Wade Davis. Also, the Royals' rotation has a chance, it appears, to be K.C.'s best and deepest in recent seasons

the thing about baseball is pretty much any team can slop into hundreds of wins over a short two season span to win an ALCS and WS. any given sunday through saturday for months on end as they say.

Looks like the Royals copied Cleveland with the 6:15 pm first pitch on school nights during April, May, and September. Also helps deal with colder weather.

the main reason the projections don't like kc is because historically, good defense has not been very stable.  so the projections regress kc's defense toward the mean, which makes them a very average team.  there are other small effects, so probably justified, some perhaps not.  but defense is the main factor.  someone let olney know

6:15 starts are only worse than 6:00 starts and 5:00 starts and so forth down to about 4:30 which are probably the best.
