Who is Ian Kennedy?

Either Wikipedia is super quick or I feel foolish for not knowing who this guy is.

Big risk.  2 year deal basically with 3 player options.  If he's good, he's around for 2.  If he's bad, he's around for 5.

Wonder how much this all has to do with the TV deal renewal coming up?

Kennedy is solid, even if the last couple years weren't so great pitching for a bad team in a home run friendly park. The connection he has with Eiland helps make this a better scenario for us IMHO.

Only problem with that is he can opt out after 2 years.  So really his tweet is meaningless.

Kennedy had a subpar year in 2015 giving up 31 HRS in 30 starts. However here are his stats the 3 previous years.  I am doing a comparison with Shields, since James pitched here and both of these guys have been inning eating starting pitchers

Kennedy had 54 starts with Az and 43 with SD in 2012-14. Shields (13-14 KC, 15 SD)

ERA --  Shields 3.40, Kennedy 4.16
Slug% Allowed - Shields .406, Kennedy .427
OBP Allowed - Shields .312, Kennedy .317
Kennedy had about 8.5 Ks per 9.0 Inn. Shields was just slightly lower

So Shields had a lower ERA, but the Slug and OBP comparible, especially when you factor in Shields played 2 years at the K with the Royals defense.  Obviously Kennedy will benefit from playing with Us and at the K, but let's hope he does a better job keeping the ball in the park and keeping his Slug% allowed down somewhere around .400

that is a lot of money for ian kennedy.  very interested to see how the deal is structured.

Yes it is. I thought they may pony up 4 for 45M to try and get him. So I was surprised this morning when the deal was announced.

agree. I don't like this one or how the deal is allegedly structured. but, I always get my mind blown by what pitchers make so maybe it's just that. I don't know.

they needed a pitcher, and you have to pay pitcher prices to get one.  but it just seems like, why not pay just a little more and get a zimmerman or a chen if you're going to pay 70 million anyways?

It's not just the money (which seems like a lot to me). It's the infinity player option years.

When we rent Strasburg for the back half of the season teams may just forfeit when they realize what our lineup looks like.
