I wanted Hamels because he had an extra year on his contract to trade next year for prospects.
Well yeah, but we weren't going to pay his contract.

We only would have had to pay for less than half a season of it.
or all of next year.

Pedro would be the best possible guy imo

he'd be good, if he'd be honest.  i'm not sure he's willing to publicly criticize players.

I think he'd be able to break down a pitcher's issues

No, when you trade a player, the team you trade him to gets the contract.

What's to get?
Quote
As part of the trade, the Phillies are kicking in $9.5 million of the $82.1 million left on Hamels' contract and will also take on all of the nearly $33 million remaining on the contract of Harrison, sources previously told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

i'd love to explain, but then it'd only be two posts.

Ok

thanks.  rage is saying that the royals should have picked up hamels for the remainder of this season and then traded him over the offseason.  that's why they wouldn't have to pay his 2016 salary.

three posts, nailed it.

I highly doubt Rage is capable of that type of thinking, but ok. Go cats/royals!

I'm all for winning in spite of Cueto and leaving him off the playoff roster.

Cueto is awful right now, but he's not the Royals' only problem. The starting pitching has been rocky lately, and the offense is pretty inconsistent. They've lost three straight series. Several recent base running mistakes, also. I think we'll break out of it, but it's not only Cueto.
