Prediction time:

What is Cueto's record and ERA in his last 4 starts? (I don't care if they are old school stats, they are easy to understand)

I'll say 2-1 (1 no decision that we win) and 3.92.

its very rare for a WS champ to be stumbling towards the finish line like this.

not so rare.

if they don't win a playoff series i will be v. sad, but not mad at the royals. they have been the best team in the AL start to finish, and also made all the right moves for October. playoffs are random, nothing you can do about it if they lose to the astros or whatever.
my goodness, the winner of a best of 5/7 game baseball playoff series is about the least random thing that professional sports has to offer

Yeah, I totally agree with mocat (before the science confirmed). In one game, the best team wins maybe 55% of the time, hence the incredibly long season. A three game playoff is such an absurd way to find the best team. Or at least to feel confident in the results. I'd love to see how many wild card teams make the World Series and compare it to how many wild card teams make the Championship game of other sports.

Yes (compared to the value of the regular season) 4.3% of the regular season in one playoff series for one sport is more random than 6.3% of the season in one game for another.

He will go 1-1 in 25.2 IP with a 4.21 ERA (12 ER).

There have been six Wild Card teams who've won the World Series in the past 20 years (first WC playoffs was in '95). In that same 20 years the NFL has also had six Super Bowl champs who were Wild Cards.

To be fair, the NFL is the 2nd most random of the professional sports, when comparing playoffs to the regular season which is where most of these numbers come from.

There have also been six Wild Cards lose in the World Series during that time, while there has only been one Wild Card lose in the Super Bowl.

So really you could look at like 12 World Series Wild Card teams and only 7 Super Bowl Wild Card teams in 20 years. #science
