you're being silly, c43.  he's had an entire career of being an average to poor pitcher.  his stats suggest that this year, the only thing he's doing differently is walking fewer batters (important) and giving up fewer homeruns (almost certainly pure luck).  and you're treating him like he's the royals' second best pitcher because he's got a nice era - a relatively meaningless stat for a relief pitcher.

he would never pitch in a playoff game before the 12th inning, and you know it.

did you post things like this last year about Wade Davis?

I don't think he's the 2nd best releiver on the team, but he's the only leftie. I only trust Herrera and Davis more based on what I've seen this season.

Yeah. He's solid. A WHIP <1.0 is no fluke. JMO.

no, because a).  davis' stats show him to be a different pitcher as a reliever.  morales actually struck out fewer than normal this year, and gave up more line drives, etc.   and b)  morales pitched a lot of relief innings before this year and wasn't any good at it.  i'd be much more sympathetic to argument that his previous stats are biased due to colorado than due to occasionally starting.

with respect to the latter - that's insane.  he's been used as the lh specialist/least important reliever all year because that's exactly what he is.  leave him on or take him off, he's still going to be yost's least trusted option and for good reason.  also, duffy will be another left-handed option, and is a much better pitcher.

right.  the career whip over 470+ innings is the fluke.  this year's number is his true talent level.  perfectly logical.

Its not insane at all sys. he hasn't been used as a LH specialist. look at his splits:

Righties: .204/.257/.538
Lefties:   .198/.247/.577

His BABIP indicates he's overperforming what he really is. i'll give you that. but that tends to happen with our team behind you in our ballpark. I dunno man. Hoch and Holland have each shown inconsistancies where Morales hasn't.

yeah, and i'm not trying to argue that he's horrible - if you discount his colorado numbers, he's probably a little better than average.  i'd love to have 26 guys on the playoff roster, but the nazis that run this thing won't allow it.  morales is just the least valuable of the 8 possible relievers (and obviously i think gore is more valuable than a guy whose main purpose would be to chew up innings if you're getting blown out).  young is simply a better pitcher.  duffy is a better pitcher.  basically any starting pitcher is a better pitcher than all but the most elite of relievers.  most relievers are relievers because they aren't good enough to start.  maybe you don't have the confidence in young and duffy because you haven't seen as much of them in that role, but they're better pitchers.

so then it's madson or morales.  madson has better career numbers, outside of a few outings when he may have been less than 100% healthy, he's been better this year, and obviously the royals think he's better.  morales is a lefty, that's basically the only reason to favor him over young or madson.  i don't think that's enough of a reason.

I would literally trust all of our relievers more than morales in a postseason situ.  Even holland.

The deal is now official. Looks like ATL let the Royals announce it. We shall see how good this move will be.

we really should have, like, more than one lefty on the roster though. right? does that make sense? like, we could end up playing a bunch of games in illegal yankee stadium and that short right field and it would be nice to spot pitch some lefties there outside of duffy starts. I mean, their right field is like some tiny little tee ball field where the highway is right there but nobody cares because it's t-ball but then some punk high school kids go there to hit balls and crater a bunch of windshields and kill a guy who careens off the road.

well, they can change the roster for each series, so maybe you take young off and put morales when you play the yankees and the reverse when you play toronto.  the main point is that gore goes on and a pitcher comes off.

duffy and morales are pretty much the only lefties in the entire organization, afaik.  iirc, they traded all of the others for cueto and zobrist.

i mean, c'mon, c43.  you made a huge deal about morales doing well this year.  maybe you should look at what young did this year as a reliever.  his numbers blow morales out of the water.   maybe you should also look at how toronto hits lefties.

i swear, it's like posting to a delusion over here.
