Those things will never happen.

so why do you think they just bought gomes?

I mean, he's valuable in an NL game in the World Series as a PH. Depth in the OF with Gordon coming off the injury. It makes me nervous they're not 100% that Gordon will be fully healthy.

i wouldn't worry about that.  they already had plenty of defensive outfielders.

houston and toronto are full of left-handed pitchers.

Can someone explain to me what a trade deadline is? Because apparently it's not what it sounds like it is.

july was the non-waiver deadline.  august is the with waiver deadline.

I have no idea what that means.

GUYS!!!!! I JUST THOUGHT OF A GOMES SCENARIO WHERE WE'D ALL BE LIKE "OH MAN I'M GLAD WE HAVE HIM"

We're down in the bottom of the 9th 4-3 to Toronto at home in Game 2 of the ALCS. Kendrys leads off the 9th with a single. PH DYSON! Dyson comes around to score. You insert Gomes at DH for extras!

Salvy has been terrible vs lefties the past couple of seasons. I'd absolutely PH for him in the right situation.

I have no idea what that means.

in order to trade a player after the non-waiver trade deadline, the team that has him has to put him on waivers, where any other teams can claim him if they're willing to assume his contract and put him on their 25 man roster.

only way Sal leaves a game in the postseason is either injury or for a PR. they aren't PH'ing for Sal. I guarantee you that.

sorry morales/madson/young, one of you is off the roster because we've got to have gore.

If Gore is in, its Young who is out, unless Madson is hurt. I am SMDH so hard at you including Morales in that post sys. Our only leftie out of the pen (maybe duffy, whatever) who has the 2nd lowest ERA on the team. I can not even right now..

he's been a bad pitcher for 7 more years than he's been a good pitcher

Boston and especially Colorado did weird things like trying to start him, so it's not really fair to judge based on their stupidity. The Royals put him in a great role as a hard throwing lefty reliever and it's been great. He has to be on any postseason roster.

you're being silly, c43.  he's had an entire career of being an average to poor pitcher.  his stats suggest that this year, the only thing he's doing differently is walking fewer batters (important) and giving up fewer homeruns (almost certainly pure luck).  and you're treating him like he's the royals' second best pitcher because he's got a nice era - a relatively meaningless stat for a relief pitcher.

he would never pitch in a playoff game before the 12th inning, and you know it.

did you post things like this last year about Wade Davis?

I don't think he's the 2nd best releiver on the team, but he's the only leftie. I only trust Herrera and Davis more based on what I've seen this season.
