#PlayPaulo

i find that as long as he isn't making ridiculously stupid and slow mistakes on defense, i don't hate him that much.  i guess i just don't care much about offense.  still, get him out.  get him the eff out.

Paulo is better all around at this point, and that really can't be argued.

i'm certainly not going to argue that.  i would argue that dyson is better than orlando.  and that platooning them is better than either.  in case you're interested in either of those arguments.

you know, for someone so fast, orlando doesn't steal that much.

Zobesy will be in RF when Gordo comes back. I think the Royals are more ok with playing Infante in the playoffs than Rios.

Because when he gets on base he's usually on 2nd or 3rd already.

well, why are they waiting until gordon gets back?  dyson is clearly and obviously better than rios.  and zobsie's highest value would be replacing the otherwise unreplacable infante.  they should be letting zobsie and esky get used to playing with each other.

i'm almost to the point of bid on rios (by which i mean rooting for him to fail).  the idea that they traded for zobrist and are using him to keep dyson off the field makes me so mad.

there's still an open base in front of him is there not?

I don't think any Royal's stealing much this year.  at least not compared to last year.  we're prob saving our speed for the playoffs.

i would be fine with tooning dyson / orlando.

i think i irrationally overvalue infante's defense at 2B

I think Paulo is more of a long stride kind of guy. Like a distant runner vs. a sprinter. He's so tall that when he hits one in the gap, he can glide, but I bet it's harder on him for a short sprint.  :th_twocents:

cain and dyson are.  both are stealing as much or more.  esky is way way down.  the main difference is esky not running and dyson playing less.

That's what i said a few weeks ago.  I still believe that but infante 3-35 slump is ugly right now. He just can't have one of these type slumps in the playoffs.

Rios is back in a slump after being on a hot streak.   I mean since June 15 (54 games ago) he is hitting .263,  but for me, I would still rather have Zo and Infante starting come October.     Rios D hasn't been as bad lately, but our entire infield has been playing some unreal D for some time, and that includes Infante.

i missed a lot of games this year where sys and others were bitching about Rios' defense. but i was there last night, and the double that Cueto gave up would have been an out with any of Cain/Dyson/Orlando out there. not sure about Zobesiepoo

Paulo has been between a 20-30 steal guy for his minor league years :dunno:

the other differences are not having aoki and gordon being older/slower and then hurt.  that pretty much accounts for all of the missing stolen bases.

he attempted more steals in the minors, but his success rate wasn't that great.  if you assume that the mlb pitchers are more difficult to run on, it makes sense that he'd run less here.

re. the long strides thing, that may be, but my first guess is just that he's not that good at reading the pitchers or getting jumps or whatever.  rios, for example looks pretty slow (and is 90% legs, obviously), but he seems to have real good success.  so he probably gets really good jumps.

he's either slower and/or much worse at reading the ball off the bat than those guys, but earlier in the year he was just making Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) plays as well.  he mostly runs in the general direction of the ball and catches balls that hit his glove these days.

I think Esky isn't 100%. Last year he was 31-37 on steals, this year he's only 10-15. With the guys behind him there is less reason for him to steal bases.
