how many runs/games has rios cost the royals since he's come back?  i don't have a count, but it feels like a crap ton.

i hate him so much.

Cain on 3rd, and 2 strikeouts. So glad Rios is hitting 3rd today   :Rusty:

We have to be better w/RISP.

Sys, I know he has cost us runs. IMO I don't think he's cost us a win.

Homer was big.  And it was our only lefty.

3 strikeouts and Eski with a weak swing, protecting with 2 strikes, lazy grounder with 2 on.

Cmon guys!!!

what are the chances that rios has the worst season of his life?  at this point, prolly about 50:50?

The fact that he's batting third today is laughable.

hey, he got one!

sometimes it's good to be so shitty at defense that runners think there's no way you can throw them out.

do hand injuries cause slowness and poor angles to the ball in the outfield?

?

infante has elbow and shoulder injuries.  i guess maybe he also has a hand injury.  but anyways, i thought he did well just to get to the first ball.  the second one, i dunno, maybe there are some 2nd basemen that get to it, but i don't think most do.

There has been nothing wrong with his arm or throws since coming back.  Carpenter is an aggressive ball player going for 2.   I know you don't want to give him  any credit at all right now, but Rios throw saved at least 1 run that inning (Carpenter scoring). It could have been 3-1 Cards, 1 out, runners on the corners, when that guy lined out to Gordon.  Instead of possible sac fly, that's out #3. So possibly 2 runs saved

But Sys, your complaints about what Rios has done at the plate since return are totally justified.  He's Infante bad right now. Dude is hard to watch at the plate right now

you're right, his arm is fine and getting that out was advantageous.  but it's also true that orlando or dyson would have gotten to the ball faster and carpenter wouldn't have tried to take second on either of them.  it worked out this time, but generally you're going to be better off with the defender that limits the total bases runners attempt to take on them.

if i'm going to be honest, even with these recent noticeable miscues, it's not that rios is a horrible defender.   but dyson and orlando are way, way above average.  they're some of the fastest players in the game, and when you put them in right field next to cain, it makes getting a hit to that side really hard.

it's hard to quantify how much that is worth, but i think, at the very minimum, rios has to be significantly, unambiguously better offensively to balance it out.  obviously, he's nowhere close to that.

he's getting paid 11 million to be our worst right field option.  i hate it.
