Just random luck

he's given up 19 hits in 55 at bats with risp in 2015.  if he'd have given up 15, we wouldn't be having this conversation.  it's not a big sample size.  and the babip for those at bats is .372.  strikeouts and bb are normal.  so, yeah, mostly luck.

btw, i just eyeballed ventura's splits with runners on.  he's gotten his crap handed to him this year, but not last year.  not sure why he'd develop a mental issue over the winter, so i imagine its just random luck.

while it probably is random luck, i wouldnt completely put a mental issue out of question. unless you have played the game at a high level, its hard to comprehend what the mind can do if you lose your confidence or you experience failure in a way you have never had to before.

Up to date on Ventura....

Runners on base, but not in scoring position... 16 for 40.  That is .400

Runners in scoring position, 20-56. That's .357

No runners on, he is under .200, approx .185

They showed those numbers earlier tonight. I really feel like his early season antics has mind mumped him this year. He's an a phenom for his size and his stuff, but the contract, his antics, etc. Have definitely been playing a role on him this year.

@mocat get in here
Why are you being such a crap head tonight? We get it, you played juco baseball. I had offers too, but I didn't wanna hang out at some shitty juco/NAIA/D2 school, I wanted to be a cat.

Right hand weakness is vague but nonetheless it's obvious he's dealt with this before.

Hand weakness generally stems from four main areas, with the most likely suspect being radial tunnel syndrome.  Other hand related issues are your typical carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, brachial plexus (shoulder)

True, but it's a pretty solid Gutty miracle scenario.

mccullough tweeted out that hand weakness is typical of some problem with the vagus, which apparently is something elbowish.  maybe the same thing as tennis elbow, but in baseball they call it pitcher's elbow.  at any rate, ventura apparently had the vagus thing last year, although i don't recall it, to be honest.

Valgus not vagus

Scared me for a second, vagus innervates the heart.
