First time out at the K this year, beautiful day for it. Glad I got to see my favorite pitcher perform one of his patented miracles, and saw Sal hit one of the hardest hit home runs I've ever seen in person. Shoot man, maybe it was just our angle, but that ball didn't look like it ever got more than twenty feet off the ground.

It seemed to me like the 6th inning is an inning that our pitchers have really struggled in.  So I looked at our starting pitchers (the 6 of them), and we have a higher ERA that inning, but not as bad as I thought.

Innings 1-5, our starters have an ERA of 4.33
In the 6th inning, we have an ERA of 6.75 (also gave up 4 unearned runs in 6th)

Going into today, in the 7th and 8th innings, our starters had given up 4 ERs in 14.2, but Guts got charged for 2 ERs in his 1/3 inning in the 7th.  So 4.00 ERA from starters in 7th-8th

Guts probably shouldn't have pitched the 7th, but Herrera wasn't very good either.

We have 21 games left in June. 16 on the road, 5 at home. 8 of the road games are against 1st place teams (Stl, Minn, Houston). Minnesota has been somewhat lucky, but Houston and St. Louis are both legit playoff caliber teams IMO. We also play at Oakland, and although they have a losing record, they're +3 in run differential and it will most likely be a series they get fired up for. Tough stretch before a long homestand leading into the all start break.

We need more production from the middle of the lineup to survive this stretch. Yeah, Omar sucks, but he shouldn't be someone we rely on. Hos is now 19 games without a HR. Moose has 1 during that stretch, Morales 2, Gordon 2, Cain 1. Only Cain of those 5 has a HR in June. I realize this team isn't based on power, but those guys must produce. We won today because of a homerun.

If we go 12-9 during the remainder of June, we should party.

We're so dominant in 2 areas (defense, bullpen) that it shouldn't bother me so much, but both Sal and Omar have 3 walks, and 26 ks.

Its crazy, we have 3 players with more than 40 Ks on the year (Gordon, Hos, Cain) but Hos and Gordon are 1 and 3 respectively on the team in OBP. It seems like they K a lot, until you look at other teams. We're last in MLB in Ks, and by a good margin. The Cubs (1st in Ks) have 5 guys over 40, and 2 over 60 on the year. The Astros (2nd in Ks) have 6 players with over 40 Ks, and one with 79  :sdeek:. That player (chris Carter, who had 212 Ks in 2013) could break the record for Ks in a season. So could Giancarlo Stanton.

I don't really have a point, just looking at stats while watching the NBA Finals and thought I'd share. Go Cats, FTB.

He's been pretty darn good five out of his last six starts. I love having him as our #5. He's had three pretty 'meh' starts, two bad starts, and six good starts. I'll take that ratio from the last guy in our rotation every season.

If you consider 5 or more runs to be a very poor start, then Guts has had 2 of his 11starts be very poor. Last year 6 of his 32 starts fell into this category.  So basicly the same 18-19% of his starts were not pretty

Last year, his remaining 81-82% of his starts, his ERA was 2.86.  This year his remaining starts have been a 3.71 ERA.

If he has a bad outing every 5-6 games, or 2 out of every 11 on average, I'm OK with that. But we need to see less 4ER games from him, and his ERA to be more in the 2.90-3.10 range from those starts where he is pitching good/decent and giving us a shot at a win.

Shields of 2014, and I Dont expect Guts to give us what James did last year.  But 2014, James had 5 of 34 starts that were very poor (5ER or more). So about 1 of every 7. His remaining 85% of his starts, he was a pretty stellar 2.40 ERA.

One of the names I've seen a lot with the Royals is a hitter, but a HS one so maybe a ways off. Can't remember the name (something Randolph I think) but saw him described as the best HS bat in the draft but no position might cause him to drop to the Royals.

Guts has gotten pretty good run support when he has pitched, but since 2013, KC is 40-18 when he gives up 4 ER or less (8-7 when he allows exactly 4ER).

5-13 record when he allows 5+

I think I just read that Hosmer and Morales overtook Miggy and Cruz, meaning we are inline for 7 all star starters

one of the best ways to relieve the frustration of a royals loss is to cast an all royals all star ballot.  also a great way to celebrate a royals victory.  and to kill time between innings.

I'd love to watch the NL all stars smack around the Royals on national TV.

Does the All-Star game follow AL or NL rules?
