there was a quick discussion on the topic of the Royals having not lost in a full year when we have the lead after 7

Well... Detroit's such streak is now..... 0 games.   Sox 4 spot in the 8th as oh so sweet

So  I trolled Sandy Alomar Jr and then on the very next pitch Brandon Moss hit it like 5000 feet. He looked right at me, made eye contact, and said "did you see that? did you see that one?" I was very pleased with myself.

Great work. Sounds like he won the battle tho.

Also, SD was spot on earlier ITT about the starters. The idea that they can just go 5 a night and let the pen take over is crazy. We'll wear down too fast. We need nights where EVERYONE rests in the pen. If the starting pitching doesn't improve ASAP this is a .500 team at season's end. Our lineup isn't that good.

Olney said Kazmir and/or Mike Leake could be real possibilities. I still think we need a legit 1 or 2. #CuetoToKC

I'm not going to lie, I miss BGJ. I trusted his stability every 5th start; it doesn't feel like we have that now. Ourdano and Duff will be fine and very good players, but it seems like they aren't quite ready to be true 1 and 2 guys. I hope I'm wrong.*

*Yes, I fully recognize we're in first and all that, but as Cf3 stated well, if our starters don't gain a bit more stability and pitch more innings things could go south quickly.

I got really upset last night, and I can't keep up this pace.  I just sprinted the first 2 miles of a marathon and now I'm cramping up and puking my guts out. Have to take a break from the Royals for a couple weeks.  #StillRoyal

Also I'm going to say again that I'm terrified Duffy and/or Ventura are going to either get broken or flame out at any moment. I like dependable decent pitchers that throw consistent 6+ inning 3.5'ish ERA baseball. That's a very hard thing to find and an expensive thing to pay for but I still want it.

Yeah, its almost easier to follow Vargas and Guts. You sort of know what you are going to get.

With Ventura and Duffy you may get greatness or you may get last night.

Volquez I'm remaining positive on, but you just don't know.

The starters scare me, I'm just glad we're scoring runs at a high clip.

If so, this will be the 2nd series we've lost this year...right?  (White Sox series in Chicago still pending)

We need to win tonight to avoid a 4 game losing streak. No way do we beat Price tomorrow or Sanchez on Saturday.

I kinda like our chances tomorrow actually. Yordano is super rested. But yes, going into Detroit losing 4 of 5, facing those 2, is daunting. Let's get a win today, for the kids.

Our next 3 games are against 2 Cy Young winners and a guy who absolutely owns the Royals :frown:

our starters suck, but it's because they suck, not because they don't throw enough innings.  the bullpen can easily do 4 innings/game.  do the math, it won't even strain them.

they aren't going to do that with a 1.0 era, because you're going to have to throw the backend guys a lot of innings.  but the idea that they'd wear down from overuse is foolish.

They've got to get better. Volquez is our best pitcher right now and that certainly wasn't the plan. Ventura and Duffy have to mature quickly.

Player   W   L   ERA   G   GS   IP?   H   R   ER   HR   BB   SO   AVG   WHIP
Volquez, E   2   3   2.10   5   5   34.1   24   12   8   1   8   27   .192   0.93
Ventura, Y   2   2   4.94   5   5   27.1   23   15   15   4   10   20   .230   1.21
Vargas, J   3   1   5.26   5   5   25.2   28   16   15   4   10   14   .272   1.48
Duffy, D   2   1   4.55   6   6   29.2   37   16   15   2   9   23   .314   1.55
Guthrie, J   1   2   6.52   5   5   29.0   36   21   21   5   10   11   .316   1.59

I really think Ventura will be good this year. He's had the weirdest start to a season in recent memory.

Concern level:
Ventura  :gocho:
Volquez  :D
Vargas
Duffy  :ohno:
Guts :runaway:

And yes, I'm more concerned about Danny than Vargas because we need more out of Danny
