Should we try Houchevar sp* project back at the 5 spot? How's that stud pitcher doing in the minors who had surgery last year? The one that's been in our system for awhile.

If they make a change in the rotation I think Young or Piña are 1st in line

He's been a shutdown guy in extended innings so far. Good stuff, good command.

After 3 times through the rotation, our starters have an ERA of 4.67. Woof.

This will improve. May take an adjustment or two to the backend of the rotation.

The Vargas/Guthrie combo at the end of the rotation is an issue

was really hoping one of them would build on last year. looks like both have regressed.

Vargas will be fine.  Guthrie not so much

Vargas had 1 good start vs the Angels, 1 bad start vs Minn.   Moose had a ground ball last night that he normally makes the play 85-90% of the time (6th inning 2 outs)  If he makes that play, Vargas is thru 6 giving up only 1 ER and may have been done for the night

Guthrie, IMO, wont be anything better than an average #5 starter.   He will have 4 of 5 below starts where he looks below average,  then have 4 of 5 starts he looks pretty decent

This will get better. Also, I know not every team has played the same # of games, but we've had the least runs scored on us in the AL and 3rd in the Majors.

Yeah, its way early.

Vargy and Guts are what they are, I'm not too worried about them. Guts is actually performing slightly better this year and honestly I appreciated what he did last night. He looked terrible, but still battled and only ended up allowing 3 runs through 5. It looked like he might allow 6 runs and go 3 or something. Vargy had a 4 spot Tuesday night, but it was somewhat unlucky because the Twins had like 3 soft ground ball singles in a row to get it.

Volquey has been a nice surprise, but he's probably not going to pitch at this rate all season. The guys we need better performances from are really Ourdano (no more cramps please) and Duffy (2nd worst WHIP ahead of only Vargy), but they will likely pitch better than the numbers show they are right now.

the attempted steal of home was so stupid. I wish we had come back and won simply to mush their faces with that

In terms of WHIP right now we have...

Volquey - .75
Ventura - 1.13
Guts - 1.44
Duffy - 1.47
Vargy - 1.77

To be fair, its probably almost statistically insignificant right now because of only 3 starts (only 10% of likely starts) each, but still gives you a feel.

Yes. Last night was much more of a frustrating offensive game (shut out by the Twins!) than pitching. We should win most of the games that we only allow 3 runs, especially against teams like the Twins.

just because the royals scored more than five doesn't mean that you have to get more than five toppings. olive and pineapple?  :Yuck:
