So when MysStarter goes 3.1, 8 H, 4 R,  we bring in Finnegan thru the 5th or 6th, then HDH if it's close, Collins/Frasor if not

Mystarter won't go that long.

If its a shaky start by Vargas, Guthrie, or Duffy I think Ned will be really quick to pull the trigger. Right now I think he'll let Shields and Ventura work through some jams, but the other guys he'll pull.

Yeah, well those Vegas bozos probably thought we would lose to the Angels, too, and we swept those bums. Vegas will never be Royal like us. We will beat the Orioles, too. :royals:

A couple of things here. Ned was on 810 this morning. Said Duffy is 100%, but he just liked him in case Vargas got in trouble. He thought our mathcups with the Angels made more sense with him being the long relief guy. 2. He announced Shields would be a game 1 guy, but doesn't know after that. He said Guthrie and Ventura will definitely make starts, but the 4th guy is down to Vargas or Duffy based off if we need them from the pen in the first 3 games.

that's part of the thing that's sketchy to me.  somewhere (blog, reporter, don't remember), i saw some people saying or reporting that the royals thought he had a problem with his mechanics pop up and that's why he isn't getting starts.  it wasn't clear to me if the mechanics thing is something that they think makes him more vulnerable to getting injured or they just think it'll make him pitch poorly.  it also wasn't at all clear if it was something that popped up after the injury or maybe existed before and they think contributed to the injury or what.  basically the whole thing is super sketchy because either no one is asking the royals or the royals aren't answering.

btw, same reaction on guthrie as vargas.  it's fine to pitch them.  deliberately pitching either of them at camden (twice!) instead of kauffman when they could use ventura in the camden games is simply Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

Ned just told Nate Bukaty he's going Shields/Ventura in Baltimore.  :Woot:

Also, only 11 pitchers, so I'd imagine the roster will be:

Pitchers:
Shields
Ventura
Duffy
Vargas
Guthrie
Davis
Finnegan
Herrera
Holland
Frasor
Collins

Position Players:
Salvy
Kratz

Hos
Infante
Moose
Escobar
Billy
Colon

Gordon
Dyson
Cain
Aoki
Willingham
Gore

Ibanez/Nix are left off. JMHO

I mean, Willingham is a valuable player especially with games in Baltimore. You get a lefty on the mound late in a game he can pinch hit for Moose, or go in at DH after Billy gets PR for. And Gore is just a dynamic weapon to unleash upon these losers.

Ventura went 1-1 with a 1.26 ERA in 14 1/3 innings in two starts against the Orioles this season. Also, Ventura surrendered fewer home runs this season (14) than any of the Royals starters except Danny Duffy.

Samesies but I mean, its either him, Crow, or Coleman for that last spot. Hopefully we don't need Collins. I'd rather him on the hill than Crow

collins is the last guy we go to and im fine with him being on there. he got the outs we needed.

duffy isnt hurt. he pitched and has been on the roster. hes a long relief/emergency starter right now.

I mean, if we go to Baltimore and come home behind 0-2, I think we can all live with it if Yordano was the guy on the mound for game 2. I mean, look at Vargas's starts in September. The game in Anaheim WAS the outlier, and should not be expected to happen again. If we lose, we lose, but I want them to have to beat our best guys.

So what changed, or what's different, between the Angels and Baltimore series, re:  Vargie?

Ventura walks a lot of guys and gives up more home runs than Vargas. Guthrie should definitely only be pitching at home, but the other two are pretty much a toss-up.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Woof, not a positive trend.
