Can Ned swallow his stupid pride and do the right thing and just play Billy all week? Its clear the best offensive lineup includes Aoki, Cain, and Billy. Willingham has been awful, and Ibanez might be the worst player in the majors. Aoki in RF everyday, and if Cain's busted butt needs a day off then Dyson can play. Billy DH. LFG

I dunno luke, can he?

Willingham has not been awful, that's just a silly thing to say. I'm team #playbilly, but Willingham has been as advertised.

cf3's antiyostism has gotten to the point where it's just a flamboyant posting style, no longer the development of a rational thesis.

Sys he pinch hit Ibanez for Willingham, when not pinch hitting, or using Butler or Cain are all far better choices, in the most crucial moment to that point I can remember as a Royals fan. It was inexcusable, and me pointing out the blunder that it was along with the foolishness of him sacrificing Aoki twice early in the game were pretty rational points. Yost's comments after that he wanted a "professional at bat" were obviously implying Billy isn't capable of a "professional at bat" whatever the heck that is. Yost put his own vendetta against Billy above the team, and it was inexcusable. Yeah I go over the top sometimes in my meltdowns, but I always back up my opinions.

Big Game James vs. Lester in a one game playoff is going to be insane.  I just hope it happens at the K.  Really hope the Angels aren't coasting now that they've clinched.

Billy looked like he was choking back tears in the Goldberg postgame this afternoon. Yes, he's underperformed for much of this season, but it was his bat, and to a lesser extent, his defense that were both huge proponents in propelling the damn team into first place.

Yost can take a hike. He's a buffoon.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

yeah, he does ridiculously stupid things.  he also fired a really good batting coach for no good reason (as you've pointed out multiple times recently).  there are lots of reasons to hate yost.  or to lol @ him, depending on your personality.

but you don't restrict yourself to criticizing his unambiguously stupid decisions.  you also attack him for things that make perfect sense and stuff that is really just a coin-flip decision either way.  there's nothing at all wrong with playing willingham over butler.  and irrc, you were also yelling at him nonstop for playing aoki, or for hitting him high in the lineup or something- right before aoki decided to hit like .700 over the last week or whatever it's been.

regarding the sacrifices - aoki has been hitting great lately.  but i believe the data indicate that sac bunting to get two runners over is pretty much a coin flip vs letting all three batters hit.  so the second bunt was not an indefensible decision.  the first bunt was purportedly aoki's decision.  i don't know what to say about that.  it's weird.  the royals are kind of a weird team and aoki seems like kind of a weird dude.

That's fair. Part of the reason I always defend Billy has been a vocal part of the fanbase that was always saying he sucks, even when he was one of the best right handed hitters in the AL. Willingham has 1 extra base hit in his last 13 games, and yes, he takes walks, but I've been disappointed with some of his recent at bats.

And how the hell was I supposed to know Aoki would catch fire? I was #TeamDyson and that has proved to be wrong.

Today was fun out there.  Great outing by Guts.

For tomorrow suspended game...here is the lineup with moose up which if the pitcher announced stays in, Ned says he will PH. Hosmer, Salvy waiting on the bench.  Unlikely win obviously but might be fun to see who Ned (the brain) comes up with.

N Aoki RF
O Infante 2B
A Gordon LF
B Butler 1B
S Perez DH
L Cain CF
M Moustakas 3B
E Kratz C
A Escobar SS

yeah, i know.  part of the reason i'm so pro willingham lately is because you and a few others are so pro butler.  it's a natural feature of messageboarding.

you weren't wrong on aoki because he's been great since then.  you were wrong because you were flailing around for anything to attack yost with and your gaze happened to rest on aoki for a second.

I love Willingham. I wish he could lock a lot of his teammates in a room with him and force-feed his approach to an at-bat. It would do wonders for the offense.

the point phil is that he takes walks, and no one else (Billy and Alex do but like, only a little bit) in the organization does.

i mean his obp is fine but his strikeout % is crap and he has a hole in his swing the size of the k. there's a reason the twins let him go. that being said, he's fine. still, i don't want him in the middle of the lineup or at the plate late in the game with runners on that need scored or advanced.

If Kyle Crockett, the lefty who was announced before the game was suspended, actually takes the mound, and Ned consequently plans to PH for Moose, Willingham and Dyson are the most logical RH choices (given Ned's propensity to follow the book). I'd use Dyson to get his speed on base. We're down 2 runs and need speed on the base paths. We need speed to do what speed does.
