What do you think they'll do with Hosmer when he comes back? Let him dh a lil bit to see how he hits? Stick him right back at first and put Billy back to dh?

Has to be putting him back at 1st...he's too good to keep him off the field.

Billy's been serviceable, nothing atrocious.  And whether it's coincidence or not, his hitting has been parallel to playing first.  It's not about Hoz ability to play first.

That's what I think they will do....bring him back a few games at DH I'm sure but he will be back at 1st w/in a week.  Billy did his job as the back-up first baseman (I do think he bats better when he plays the field).  Hopefully they won't eff with the batting order though.

there shouldn't be any huge rush to get him back tho, billy has done fine, no need to risk another set back.  we will need his d in the postseason if we make it, but we also could use his bat, so why risk it on games where billy can handle it on his own?

Maybe you are right....question was what do we think they will do...that's my guess as to what they will do.  I wouldn't have a problem with that either....do you wait for Billy to not make a play that Hoz would, then make the switch?  You put your best players on the field....Hosmer > Butler.  I agree don't rush him back and a couple games at DH can't hurt to get him back to MLB pitching.

yeah i mean billy has been playing for a while now since hos has been out, there isn't going to be a single play where you say, yep, hos needs to be in.  idk i just think that billy plays well enough(sure as crap better than i thought he would do) and until you know hos can come back and play 100% don't force it.  we have played better without him since the break anyways so..

I'm not sure I even want him back at DH at this point.

I only hate closed minded liberals. They're the worst. Other than that, everyone is ok in my book.

Billy is a known quantity at first. Nobody says they will force it. When he is ready after rehab he will go back to 1st. It's great Billy is playing well so they don't have to force the return. This isn't a pipp/Ruth or even grbac/Gannon situation.

How great is it that this was said and it was serious!

So the Rockies. At least stats wise, one of the best hitting teams in baseball. Worst pitching. Can we win 9 series in a row?

The Royals have said they don't think Hos will be back in time for a minor league rehab assignment because the minor league season will end before he's ready. Ned said several days ago that Hos will be back at first base because he can't leave a Gold Glover on the bench. But Billy is playing and hitting damned well. Could be that, like others have said before, Hos may DH a bit before taking over 1B. Why do I say he may do that? Because BB is playing quite well, Willingham is beginning to prove himself at DH, and we have a winning lineup. Several dilemmas for Ned.

Their best hitter, by far, is now done for the season along with the CF.

hos won a gold glove but advanced defensive metrics have never liked him. and honestly, aside from billy's flubbed popup, i don't think i've seen him not make a single play that hos would have. 1st base is the position where you need defense the least.

play billy. sit hos on the damn bench.

Have to agree that BB has done an adequate (if not more than adequate) job at 1B. And he's been good at the plate since Hos went down. Ned shouldn't rush Hos back just for his defense. Like they say, "Don't fix what ain't broke." These guys are on a roll. But if BB suddenly funks at the plate, it could be another story.

I know it's a small sample size, but Kratz should probably be DH, right? He hit two home runs in two tries! And he broke his bat one of those times and it didn't even matter!

Things I really want to do this year at the K.

1. Lead an "MVP" chant for Alex Gordon.

2. Join a "Bear -------" chant at the end of the regular season.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

We're not leaving Hosmer on the bench. I just hope he's not hitting 3rd when he returns

Off the top of my head, there were the two Chen pickoffs at the White Sox that Hosmer absolutely gets the guy at second, and probably the play at the plate the other night. I'm sure there are more, but I've mostly listened to games lately.

Guys what if Ned plays Hosmer at 1B and then DH's BILLY FOR HOSMER.  The pitchers seemed to hit pretty okay in prior interleague games...why not try it for a few games and let Hos get back into the swing of things?

Quote from: Rule 6.10(b)
A hitter may be designated to bat for the starting pitcher and all subsequent pitchers in any game without otherwise affecting the status of the pitcher(s) in the game. A Designated Hitter for the pitcher must be selected prior to the game and must be included in the lineup cards presented to the Umpire in Chief.
