I'm not going to read the dozen or so pages I've missed this week, so sorry if luked...

These 1 run games have to balance out over the course of a full season, right? Even with the win today we're a AL-worst 11-20 in those games. Games like today and hits like Aoki's in the 9th just show we're thisclose to turning this thing around.

5-1 in 1 run games since July 23...  :gocho:
Can't really expect it to even out over a season. Last year 10 teams had a differential of +/- 10 wins in 1 run games. Only 2 teams who were under .500 had a record over .500 in 1 run games, and only two teams over .500 had a record under .500 in 1 run games.

Median differential from .500 in one run games is 6 over the 2013 season

 /mocat

I think we're on the same page here... Teams that are good enough to finish >.500 and be in contention for a playoff spot (like the Royals) never only win 1/3 of 1 run games like they did for the first ~100 games of the season.

They may not get all the way back to even in 1 run games, but the fact that they were once 10-20 in those games was not a good reflection of what they are.
Gotcha. Detroit was the only playoff team to be under last year and they were 20-26 in 1 run games. Not surprisingly, they had the highest win % in non-1 run games.

These late games do suck.  Wednesday night I had to turn it off after the 7th (big league so wasn't worried).  Last night, I was a bit worried and stayed up through the entire game (fell asleep 3 times between 6th inning and end of game).

The slide by Moose saved me from staying up even later.  Didn't think we would need the 4th run but I'm glad we got it for a little insurance.

Would have been safe running it out. Diving into first is just the dumbest

Stupid yes (risk of injury), but sliding can be beneficial if it is a close (very close) play.

When the sole goal is to touch the bag as fast as possible (whether stopping at bag or running through), sliding headfirst at the right time will actually be faster.  Your body mass plus velocity creates a momentum that is transformed to angular momentum as you dive headfirst.  Additionally, the runner starts to work against air drag as the body becomes horizontal with the ground.  The dirt on the field does not create enough friction for the dive to work against the runner, especially since the distance the runner is sliding when first touching the ground is very short.

Every coach I've ever had has told me it's slower to slide through first base than running it out. Just my  :th_twocents:

late games are great. get dinner out of the way, do a social thing if you want, get home in about the 3rd inning and just #royalstwitter all night long.

looks like the wc % is quite a bit better than the division %.  about 16% v about 9%.

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/probability.jsp

chance of winning the division way up from yesterday.  about 15 and 12 now.

You can want what you want, but I'm sitting here hanging on every pitch and verbally rooting for NY vs. Det.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Winning is everything now. 2.5 and a chance at sitting in that second WC for insurance.

Q: Is there a better uniform in all of sports than the Royals home all white with Royal blue cap?

A: Of course not. It is the tip top.

there really isn't. big reason why i really feel like if the royals were to ever truly catch fire, they'd be pretty popular for casual fans all over the place. the colors, unique team name/logo, great looking uni's, etc
