Last 6 of 8 starts, Shields has allowed 4+ ERs. Our other 4 starters have done that twice in the past 23 starts.

cf3 wants the royals to stop coddling hos?? i agree.

and while we are at it, let's tell our "ace" to get his head out of his ass and act like a competent major league pitcher.

Ok smart guy what REAL suggestions do you have for James? Only option is have him skip a start or 2 and go on the DL, or keep plugging and hope for the best. I'm fine either way.

I'm being serious here. I'm concerned about Shields. On one hand, he's pitching so poorly that it might be hard to get a good deal with him at the break. On the other hand, he's been pitching so poorly that his signing value next year has decreased. We might have a shot, but do we want him? :dunno:

Absolutely can't trade him. We'd get nothing. Honestly we're probably better off not signing him regardless of performance the rest of the season. Even if he's bad he'll still get SOME deal, not a monster one, but something, and we'd be better off investing in a bat than an arm this offseason. Our rotation will actually be pretty good without him. Play him the rest of the season, pray he gets it together, and move on.

If we're in good position at the AS Break and need to hunt up a bat, any teams interested in dealing with us will want pitching. Shields is the only starter I'd consider moving, but Cf3 is correct--we'd get nothing for him. I'd say hang on to the pitching and likely move a prospect or two and package them with Aoki; of course, in that scenario, we might be able to throw in Shields and get a bit of value for him. But we're not getting anything worth getting by trading Shields by himself.

No one wants Aoki either. Its not as simple as tossing in our garbage players in a multi-player deal.

I'm all for the first option. You could either have him skip his start vs. the Rays to come back for home start in the Tigers series. Another option is to run him out there again vs. Tampa, see how it goes, and then sit him down until after the All-Star break. While giving him a break vs. Detroit plus the ASG would be great, there isn't a good chance for a tune-up start in Omaha that way.

Do the Royals want Shields to pitch against his old mates in Tampa? I dunno, but there is a nice window for him to get a spot start with the Chasers home from the 6th to the 10th.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Yes, it would be nice if we could avoid people hypothesising trading hot piles of garbage for players who could help out KC.

If Aoki is healthy by the break, I think some teams might be interested in him as a bat off the bench or late inning replacement. Won't get a great deal for him, but even though he's having an off year some teams look at a need they have to complete a contending team for the stretch. That said, I don't look for KC to make any blockbuster deals. Not Dayton's style and although Glass says he'll spend some money, I don't see him spending much.

What I'm saying is if we do anything to help the club, it will take a deal involving someone like Aoki as a late season role player and some prospects. We're not getting a bat unless we trade a starter (don't want that to happen unless it's Shields, which I admit is a long shot) or prospect(s) in the same deal.

Jeff Montgomery, former Royals closer and current Royals postgame analyst, says that Shields’ normally devastating change-up is lacking its usual bite in recent starts. Monty explained that KC’s ace is dropping his arm slot, making the pitch just spin instead of getting yanked down with a more over-the-shoulder delivery to create its late break. Maybe — and hopefully — Monty is right and this is a simple problem with mechanics. KC insists so far that it has nothing to do with injuries or fatigue, and with such a proven workhorse, fans should and will take them on their word — for now.

do this fix first and if it doesn't work then shoot him for the insurance money.

Ned said in post game tonight that Shields' mechanics "look good" and he doesn't have any "level of concern" about Shields. Whose opinion on pitching mechanics do I trust more--Monty's or Ned's?  Monty's, of course. Ned being Ned.

if i could go back in time and tell 5th grade james shields to play soccer instead of baseball - i would do it.

you should go back to 7:32 tonight and tell yourself not to make this dumbass post as long as you have the time machine fired up

you're gonna regret this post so much you stupid idiot

final score: we got our asses completely kicked courtesy of one james shields.

if you keep managing this thread like ned manages the royals don't think i won't don wakamatsu your ass
