Thanks, Big Papi, for your 9th inning bomb to beat the Tigers. Every little bit helps. (I liked it, but I remain pessimistic for the long haul).

Last 13 times Holland and Davis both pitched in same game..... they have combined for 29 Inn 12 hits 1 ER  46 Ks and only 7 BBs.  KC won 12 of those 13 (Lost game at SD in extra innings after Holland gave up HR in 9th).    These 2 are just lights out.

KC has won 10 of last 11 starts by Shields.   They need to do a better job of giving run support for the other starters.  Last 21 non Sheilds starts, Royals only have 58 runs I believe.  That's like 2.8 runs per.

A win tonight and we're at .500, with our DH cleanup hitter, and our 3rd hitting 1st baseman having the worst stretches they've ever had. Not to mention another corner infielder who can't hit a fastball.

Guys, if we're at .500 and have hit this bad, how can you not have hope?

Because the royals probably won't pitch this well going forward?

They've kept it up for a season and a half, I don't know why it would change.  Also, same for the hitting.

The pitching could get much worse with an injury or two. The hitting has been bad for long enough that I just don't see anything short of getting new players that could make it get much better.

hos should start hitting better. it's unreal that he has been so bad this year. cain is effing awesome this year (until he gets hurt again) i'm guessing he's mostly in the green

cain and esky have picked up a lot of the slack in AVG and OBP. no idea aoki's numbers against our right fielders last year but my guess is a little better? definitely gonna be better in runs scored.

2014

Cain (105 proj games) .331/.369/.441, 5 HR, 62 RBI

Cain has 145 at-bats so far this year. Last year, after 145 at-bats, Cain was at .303/.373/.414 (and you can see where he ended up), so I wouldn't expect him to keep this up, but 62 RBI's from LoCain would be really fabulous.

2013

RF .258/.304/.392, 12 HR, 71 RBI, 70 runs scored

2014

Aoki .256/.318/.311, 0 HR, 36 RBI, 77 runs scored

tough to compare 2013 RF production vs Aoki. He is asked to get on base & score, not hit home runs. He has a slightly better OBP and projected runs scored than the crew at RF last year.  :dunno:

2013: 30-33 (242-237 RF-RA)
2014: 31-32 (244-259 RF-RA)

I can't find the team's stats at a given date, but i can tell you after March, April and May, the Royals looked like this:

2013 (52 games) .259/.312/.372, 29 HR, 197 RBI

2014 (55 games) .253/.307/.352, 24 HR, 196 RBI

so we have virtually the same record as last year and scored virtually the same amount of runs, despite being worse across the board at hitting, AND giving up 22 more runs on defense than last year. interesting.

I mean, logic will lead us to believe this is probably a 79 win team.

great statting, mocat.

hosmer swings at so many bad pitches.  they all do, sorta (except gordon), but it seems worse with hosmer, because if a pitcher is stupid enough to throw him a strike he often hits it pretty well.
