5/18 = Dress to the nines day. Negro Leagues tribute with throwback uniforms and a fedora give away.

Yep. This seals the Shields era in KC. Developing starting pitching must be #1 priority for this franchise or we'll never be contenders. And that scares me.

Nothing has changed. Shields isn't going to get Kershaw money, and the Royals were probably never going to extend him anyway

Quote from: Quote from Article
Penny is 33 years old, apparently has a sore arm, and posted a 5.30 ERA with nearly as many walks (62) as strikeouts (74) for the Tigers last season, so odds are he’ll have trouble finding more than a minor-league contract back home.

Quote from: Comments section
I always felt that “r” never belonged in his name

lol, Royals.

Best thing I can say about Penny is that he's won more games than he's lost. 119-100.

The Penny pickup is low risk with who knows what potential. Worst case scenario is he sucks ass and stays in the minors. Best case scenario is he somewhow finds his crap and contributes to the bullpen or battles for the fifth spot.  Just a minor league contract with a spring training invite. No significant money exchanged.

Exactly.   If dude comes in an absolutely lights it up during spring training, cool.   If not, we're not losing anything and we release him.

This. After all, like I said before, the guy has won 119 games (although he's lost almost as many). 119 W's isn't all that bad. Worth the risk.
