They should get better

Either at pitching or fielding if they are bad at pitching

At home, we have the 3rd highest Batting Ave (.292) and 7th most Runs scored per game in MLB
If we were in the middle of the league in Ave and Runs on the road, we would be a decent offense

I don't want to see Young or Gee start again.  Gee has allowed 34 hits in 23.0 innings in 5 starts.  That's like batting practice. 15 ER too.   Gee does fine in mid/long relief and I think Young will to. They need to let Flynn have a try at being starter #5. Give him a shot at least

mocat your pitcher foul area has already been ruled on.  it's out.

on the df, you could have a little half circle around the mound and the df couldn't field a ball until it crossed the line, which would help keep bunting.  but the more i think about it, having pitchers field is not a problem.  it's actually great.  if anything it's too hard to get infield hits as is.  maybe we should eliminate the shortstop.

just make it illegal for pitchers to field anything that isn't on their dirt mound.  then people can try more straight ahead bunts and maybe defenses will play the 2b or ss in to try and get those and then more balls will get through up the middle.  maybe i'm missing something, but it seems like that'd fix everything.

Do the mound rule AND get rid of a def position AND add another DH on offense  :fatty:

Honestly, right now I don't think he wants it. He even said he feels he is letting the team down.

I'd like to see CY be a guy out of the pen who gets 3-6 outs and not long relief. We have HSHD but there are games we need a pitcher to pitch the 6th and maybe the 6th&7th.  We don't really have a set guy for that spot if the game is close and we know we aren't gonna use 3 or 4 of HSHD guys.  So far this year, when that situation has come up, it's just been whoever is available or Ned keeps the starter in.

I don't know if CY would be good at that role or not.  He isn't the pitcher he was last season, but last year he had 13 relief appearances where he pitched 2.0 Inn or less.  He gave up 9 hits 4 ER in 16.0 Inn.

Cleve is 3-6 since start of last Saturday.

And we gained no ground,  playing 6 of those 9 games at the K

That really sucks

also his "slumping" is miles better (both via the eye test and stats) than Gordon at any point this season

Yep. Hos actually had a hit in 27 of the 36 games he played in June/July, so he never had a 3-33 type slump.
Also he had 14 walks and 13 Rbi in June, respectable numbers.

Now 1 rbi last 12 games, no walks in July isn't good. 3 HRs in last 6 weeks is also less than what we would expect

I think they need to hit Cain 2nd.  Whit has done a fine job hitting 1-2, but no one else has.  If Gordo starts hitting better at some point, maybe Ned can consider him towards the top again.

Whit-Cain-Hos-Mo-Salvy-Paulo-Gordo-Cuthbert-Esky.  Cuthbert could hit 6th if Dyson is in for Paulo.

Gordo bats 9th until he can hit a rough ridin' slider better than .069

what about making sure dyson and/or gore is on base in front of gordon so that pitchers will think twice about slidering?

Cut should not hit in the 6 slot.

Wouldn't it be so great to see Hosmer hit a grand slam against Cueto
