The double Hoch gave up was on a good pitch. Everyone needs to lay off the pen and Ned and wake up to the fact that a lineup with no production offensively out of 3B/1B/C/RF is going to need flawless pitching and defense, and we don't have it.

The problem with the team is offense.

Rankings in the AL (15 teams)

Avg: .268 - 4th
OBP: .323 - 7th
SLG: .390 - 12th
OPS: .714 - 10th
Hits: 258 - 12th
2B: 52 - 7th
3B: 9 - T1
HR: 16 - 15th (dead last, Minnesota is next with 21, and everyone else has at least 30)
Runs Scored: 122 - 12th

It's painfully obvious what the problem is.

Eh, Ned's decisions yesterday really DID hurt us today. No Holland/Herrera tonight, even though I think it's stupid that Holland is completely out of the question today.  But yeah, Gordon homers and everyone acts like the bats weren't awful today. 3 GIDPs.  :flush:

I don't give a eff if Salvy hits .100, his D is worth it but we do need production out of the other three positions.

Ned's the one who trots Jeff "I'm the worst everyday player in baseball" Francoeur out there every rough ridin' day. Ned's the one who fired Kevin Seitzer because he thought we were going to be "like the Rangers" this season. Ned Yost, and his easily bruised ego... And his man crush on "hunting buddy" Frenchy, and his horrible in game decisions, are to blame here.

This is a good team but the team is winning in spite of him, but it doesn't feel like it can be sustainable.

We'll win as long as our SP is like this. We hit a pitching slump and we're screwed.

I think the royals could be on the verge of losing quite a few in a row.  The lack of offense is becoming something that might not turn around.  The pitching is not going to hold up. The lack of power on this team is ridiculus, it just doesn't make sense. The average joe could go up there swinging like frenchy does and get the barrel on the ball square and knock it out of the park as often as the royals do.

I really don't think the Royals have ever had a history as a power hitting team. Yes, they've had a few big boomers, but not several on the same team. This team has some hitters with great potential, some pitchers with great potential, and some gloves with great potential. What's missing? IMO, it's a great manager who can meld it and bring it all together. Torre mad winners out of losers, Showalter does the same, and Billy Martin did it better than anyone. Who can do the same for the Royals? My wildest dream is Tony LaRussa, but I really believe he has retired for good. What's the answer?

Dude, Billy Martin. Really?   Weird choice.   Anyhoos, I think Yost was fine for the team before. He's a player's coach and young kids enjoy that. Now he's costing us games so he can GTFO.  Just plug in any available coach at this point, the change should be enough to get the players attention.

Follow the history. Billy was a great team manager but a poor manager of his personal life. Tactics he knew, personalities of his players, not so much. But he won. Ned? He makes too many excuses. He's a third base coach, not a manager.

The Royals are never going to have great power numbers because the K is ridiculous.  But the royals numbers this year are absurd.  They'll never be a top half power team though.

Kaufmann isn't THAT ridiculous. The park has been both 15th and 16th in HR frequency since the fences were moved back in 04. Granted, it's usually in the 20's, and a couple of times has been in the bottom two, but so has St. Louis among others...

"I started calling him John during the game, cause he was rocking it like No. 7 -- like Elway," Harper said."

Quote
Over the course of the past three seasons, lefthanded batters like Hosmer have hit home runs once every 59.4 plate appearances at Kauffman. Just three other big league parks have witnessed such long waits between homers by lefties, Minneapolis' Target Field, San Diego's Petco Park and San Francisco's AT&T Park.

Lefty batters at Kauffman, whether they be Royals or visiting players, haven't had the same difficulty collecting singles, doubles and triples as they have clearing the fences. In fact, lefties have hit .278 at Kauffman since 2009, and a robust .321 when putting the ball in play. Those figures rank third and second, respectively, among the 30 parks, considering performance by lefthanded batters only

it's pretty bad

I like how there are less home runs hit in Kauffman. It makes the game go faster and small ball is more fun to watch.

Which player was held back from reaching his 40+ homerun potential because of the ballpark? Or is it possible the Royals just have never had a power hitter in their existence?

Both, but the team doesn't build around power like others have done.
