Our top 6 hitters in the lineup tonight are hitting over .300. Only one month, but that is quite fun

Why do the Royals and Tigers need to play in back to back weekends in May?

Tigers will be the last AL Central team for the Royals to have had 2 series against.

watching the tigers you're like man i bet these guys haven't won a game all year and then you look at the standings and you're kind of surprised because they actually have.

I was watching the game with my Dad and he was talking about how good the tigers pitcher has been all year, and then we watched him get rocked. It was great.

I just checked the standings and sure enough, there's our Royals, right in first place where they belong.

Posse stat of the night =
Royals scored 6 or more runs for the 11th time tonight, in game #22.   Last year it was game 44 before KC had gotten 6+ runs 11 times.

We just ended April having more hits (239) than anyone and the best batting ave (.306) in MLB.    Our 5.41 runs per game are 2nd only to Balt

Matthew DeFranks @MDeFranks
Yordano Ventura has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his seven-game suspension tonight. #Royals

Means next start will be next Friday @Detroit

vs Tigers
4/30 Duff
5/1 Young?
5/2 Volquez
5/3 Vargas
vs. Cleveland
5/4 Guts
5/5 Duff
5/6 Young?

We have off day on 5/4, so Clev series starters likely to be Guts, Duff, Volquez.  Then Ventura Vargas and Guts vs Det.   I really wanted Volquez 2 get starts in both Det series, but don't see that happening.

Chris Young has been a stud against these tigers.  They have batted 7-41 against him for his career.  Royals have never faced Lobstein.

Baseball Savant is a really cool resource:

Man, I really thought we faced Lobstein last year, weird. Also, hope Chris Young does well tonight. Really wouldn't mind him taking over one of the spots in the back half of the rotation.

Yeah, while Young has had some nice relief appearances, I'm not sold as a regular starter he'd be any better than Vargas or Guts. They are all about the same; guys in their 30s (Young is 35) and in the last few years of their careers. Those 3 all had similar numbers last year, except Young pitched fewer innings.

Last year: ERA, WHIP, SO/W, Innings per start.

Vargas - 3.71, 1.273, 3.12, 6.23
Guts - 4.13, 1.303, 2.53, 6.31
Young - 3.65, 1.230, 1.80, 5.69

TBH, I was also thinking Young would be a better option at 4/5, but after looking at the numbers it doesn't seem like it would be a huge difference. Its great to have him for long relief and nights like tonight when we need a spot start.

yeah i don't know if young is better than those two but maybe. good kc star article on him the other day. on august 17th of last year he was 12-6 with a 3.07 era but then kind of fell apart the last month. he thinks he wore down at the end of the season because he had been pitching for over a year straight.
