Maybe this has been posted as I haven't read all the posts since the game, but I think it was worthwhile.  Makes me feel a little better about not sending Gordon, even if it would've been really cool

http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2014/10/_2014_world_series_game_7_should_alex_gordon_have_tried_to_dash_home_with.html

yeah. Salvy was more likely to get a single than Gordon was to make it home IMO. Frankly we were lucky he was at 3rd and not 1st

It would have been so badass though.

would you rather have Salvy get the hit vs the A's, or vs the Giants. obviously i take the A's hit 10 times out of 10

well if we're playing the giants and Salvy didn't get the hit vs the A's, it means we won the game vs the A's in the 13th or 14th. and if he gets a hit vs the Giants we tie the 7th game of the World Series.

So yeah I'd take the Giants a billion times out of a billion.

also the Giants would've been a hit vs. Bum. A's was vs. Jason Hammel.

yeah but in my scenario, salvy doesn't get the hit and the royals don't beat the A's and everybody has an average october. did you read that october post a while back btw? wow that was from the heart

i thought the chances of a passed ball were greater than salvy getting a hit.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

So you're basically asking "would you rather have Salvy gotten a hit vs the A's or not"? Because then If I choose Giants, you're like "LOL joke's on you. We lost the wild card and the World Series was Orioles vs. Giants".

So its a trick question.

Yeah, that first second, I dreamed of a Salvy game winning homer. Then I dreamed of a passed ball and Gordo running home to tie it. Then it was over.

In answer to previous caller:

World Series shirts are great, and we should all buy and wear them proudly. However, avoid ones that have a Giants logo on it too. Like, I have a 2013 Fiesta Bowl hoodie, but it doesn't have an Oregon logo. Just says K-State.

Pennants, pins, books, and posters, are all ok to have Giants logo on if that's what they have.

As soon as Salvy swung at the first pitch over his head, I knew the game was already over. I would have put a pinch hitter in after that swing.

It felt a lot like the Butler game, only worse. The Butler game was my most upsetting loss as a sports fan before last night. When a magical run comes to an end like that, it stings.

I feel worse today than I did last night. Didn't think that was possible.
We were playing with house $. I don't feel bad at all. I still feel excited.

That's really dumb.

I feel like this is how the movie version would have ended. They couldn't win the whole thing - that would be too unbelievable.  Instead, they get within 90 feet of yet another improbable comeback, and then reality steps in with all of her matter-of-fact ways and squashes it.  But, they all walk away with their heads held high, having learned a valuable lesson about hard work and friendship that they'll carry with them the rest of their lives.

He would've been toast. Any runs in that 9th inning would've been a miracle

Like Friday Night Lights.  Man I thought Tim McGraw's son was going to get it done, so close.  Awesome when they are hugging at the end though.  Both father and son learned valuable lessons that day.

Even though Crawford had the ball, it would have to be a good throw. It would have been fun to see especially in hindsight.
