So Danny Duffy is 6th in ERA- among starters with 100+ IP. If we don't start him in game 2 or 3, that would be so dumb.

I don't think they believe he is 100% yet. That may change this week, but I think the 810 guys are correct in projecting Shields, Vargas, Ventura, Guthrie, Shields, Vargus, Ventura if it goes that far.

If we throw Vargas on the hill in Camden Yards we are asking for trouble

alternative?

IF Vargas finds his way into the rotation, I'd rather go:

1: James
2: Ventura
OFF DAY
3: Vargas
4: Guthrie/Duffy (please Danny please Danny)
5: James
OFF DAY
6: Ventura
7: Finnegan's 1st MLB start.

Yeah, if we are going to throw Vargas, we should throw him at Kauffman.

He did great in LA :dubious:
I believe LA is the only park that is less homerun friendly than Kauffman
:adios:

He's got a better record on the road too.

Andy said on Buster Olney's podcast that we prefer Vargas on the road.

Maybe you should compare the dimensions of Angel Stadium, Kauffman, and Camden Yards. One of these parks is pretty different from the others.

Let's not kid ourselves, the Game 1 win with Vargas involved a lot of luck. I just think in Camden yards, against THAT lineup, it could get out of hand fast. They led the majors in homeruns, and that is a homerun park. I mean, they hit 56 more homers than the ANGELS!!!!!! You gotta go Ventura or Duffy in Game 2, and hope Vargas gives up warning track outs instead of Homeruns in Game 3 at the K. It makes sense.

If I were a betting man, I'd wager Ned goes with Vargas in game 2, though.

Vargas has 4 starts (29.1 innings) in Camden yards, and has given up only 2 HRs, with a 2.76 ERA.  :dunno:

Don't look it up, and rank our pitchers, and the league average pitcher, in terms of how effective they are at preventing runs.

Guys, games 2 and 3 we were the better team. Game 1 we were lucky. I mean, once we got out of the 6th and the pen came in, the advantage shifted to us, but dude those plays with Aoki were lucky. Cain's leaping catch, well, it was lucky the ball wasn't 3 inches higher. I'm saying I'd be shocked if we had a Vargas start like that in Baltimore.

That seems like an awfully small sample size to base a decision of this magnitude on.

I can understand the toss up between Vargas and Ventura pitching game 2/3. I like that if Ventura pitches game 3, then game 7 is set up for Ventura on the mound.

I don't like Finn first start for game 7.

Ned and the baseball gods (who are apparently feeling frisky) have rattled my confidence in everything I thought I knew about the Royals and the way that baseball works. Whatever Ned does will probably work, and I'll continue to feel like this is all a very long, strange dream.

I know. I panicked when I set my rotation and realized it would be Vargas again for game 7.

I guess if you look big picture, and a potential 7 games, Vargas game 2 isn't a disaster but it just makes me real nervous if you know what I'm saying.

I really really really want Danny to start a game.

Well, you don't want to save your best for a game 7 that probably won't even be played.

True, but I'm just hoping for the same in Baltimore as I was in LA; come home with 1-1 split. The 2-0 in LA and sweep was fantastic, but I'm not expecting it in the ALCS.

I'm also hoping they find out that Danny is healthier than we thought and he's gets a start at least once in this series. (like in game 4 or 6)

this would be a lot easier if we knew something about Duffy

Yes. I mean, he looked not like himself that Saturday night in Chicago, but looked sharp (to me at least) Thursday in Anaheim.

So........

Have the O's announced their rotation yet?

I'm sure super stud manager Ned will get it all figured out.
