yeah, valencia was tired and slow as eff rounding third.  still was the right call.  higher % of the defense not making the throws/catches/tags than hayes getting a hit.

look at the similar situ with dyson and the fat whitesock.  a good throw gets him pretty easy, but dyson's throw was up the line.  that happens a lot.

I'm with sys here. It's another thing when your team has a chance to mash in a run later.

I know nobody wants to hear this but you have got to trade wade davis while he is hot, that or trade holland. he would bring some very good offers and lets be honest herrera could do what wade does for the most part. you either take him and put him on the block or make him your closer. you essentially have two closers that are very good on the roster but those guys have a three-five year time frame and then fizzle out. strike while the iron is hot with one of these guys

way ahead of you slim

we need to trade holland. his value will never be higher.
question is which one do you keep? id go with davis

keep davis. i think his option for next year is 7 million which is probably less than holland's arbitration will be. holland will bring back more because "closer" vs 8th inning setup guy.. and davis is actually better.

cheaper - will take. perceived as less valuable - will take. better - will take.

I would ship everyone out minus salvy, cain, ventura and duffy and start from there.

Alex Gordon is the face of this franchise. You can't ship him off.

don't be an idiot fanning. you keep alex. is he worth every penny that we're paying him and more? yes.

And Escobar? This is why nobody ever takes you seriously.
I'm not sure anyones ever noticed a single post by you. Especially talking that non-sense that the royals are closer to a championship than the chiefs. Escobar is great, but they need to burn this mother down!

stop being a dumbass fan man. alcides is young, an above average shortstop and is locked into a club friendly deal for the next few years. he's one of the only guys on the team who hasn't been a complete dumpster fire (the errors this week notwithstanding..). by the time alcides deal runs out, mondesi will be making his way to the big club.

Ned is again playing the we're "one big hit away" from turning "this thing" around card.

One big hit? OK, Ned, who's going to get that one big hit?

Yea, I'd have been tempted to do it even if the Royals looked like they could still contend. With the Cubbies already selling their guys, Shields would be looked at as possibly the best available after Price.

Unfortunately, Dayton can't trade James Shields if he hopes to keep his job. I'm sure he doesn't have complete confidence that he'll still have a job next year if we go into a tailspin down the stretch. This creates an immense conflict of interest. He can't do what's best for Dayton and the Royals at the same time. We'll hold onto any pieces of value at the major league level, and if he can mortgage the future to try and salvage this season, then I imagine that he will. Dayton is the most dangerous man in the Royals organization at this point. The sooner that David Glass realizes this, the better.

he has been for a few years now. that's why he shipped off myers, odorizzi (who has actually been better than shields this year  :sdeek:), montgomery and leonard for shields and davis. he was saving his ass then, and he's about to do it again. i hate him.

If I'm David Glass and Dayton Moore didn't do what's best for the team just to save his own ass I would rough ridin' fire him tomorrow.

Tonight:  Tigers won, Tribe lost, we lost, ChiSox won.

We're 8 behind Detroit and 1.5 behind Cleveland. ChiSox are just one game behind us.

And we're 4 back in the WC.

Guys, we could leave Chicago in 4th place. Was it really that long ago that we were in 1st?   :frown:

At least an unbiased baseball fan could make a valid argument in favor of the Shields trade. I'm afraid that he's about to do something that will leave the collective baseball world in utter shock.

I'm really afraid that we're about to unload 1-2 of only a handful of real prospects we have in our farm system for Alex Rios, AND agree to pick up his $13.5 million contract for next year. That's my nightmare.

I wouldn't do that deal. That said, I don't think Moore would shock the  baseball world if he made a deal for Rios. It's the kind of typical deal he would make. He's just not a stellar GM.

lol, no, I don't have any sources. I can tell you why I fear this particular scenario though. Rios is possibly the only actual upgrade in right field that's available, if Dayton is going to convince Glass to spend more money, it will have to look like the move will really make us better. Dayton is notorious for misjudging the trade market and getting fleeced because of it, coupled with the fact that we have no leverage in a trade right now, I'm afraid that the price would be incredibly steep for our team in particular. I guess I do have a source for the last part http://kckingdom.com/2014/07/21/trade-rumors-alex-rios-radar-kansas-city-royals/ we're on his no trade clause, so we'd most likely have to pick up his 2015 option in order to land him.

I don't think anybody in baseball other than people inside the Royals organization think that we're an upgrade in right field away from being a contender. To trade away prospects from an already depleted farm system in a last ditch effort to save the season that everybody else thinks is lost would be shocking...I think. I may be too invested in the Royals to view the situation clearly.
