At least an unbiased baseball fan could make a valid argument in favor of the Shields trade. I'm afraid that he's about to do something that will leave the collective baseball world in utter shock.

I'm really afraid that we're about to unload 1-2 of only a handful of real prospects we have in our farm system for Alex Rios, AND agree to pick up his $13.5 million contract for next year. That's my nightmare.

I wouldn't do that deal. That said, I don't think Moore would shock the  baseball world if he made a deal for Rios. It's the kind of typical deal he would make. He's just not a stellar GM.

I don't think anybody in baseball other than people inside the Royals organization think that we're an upgrade in right field away from being a contender. To trade away prospects from an already depleted farm system in a last ditch effort to save the season that everybody else thinks is lost would be shocking...I think. I may be too invested in the Royals to view the situation clearly.

Your general logic is spot on. Nobody in their right mind believes picking up Rios will cure the Royals. But if Moore did that, other baseball people would not be shocked--they have to know he just makes poor decisions.

Based entirely on 2014 stats, I would start Dyson over Rios anyway. Rios has had a very nice career, but his 2014 numbers are awful.

Ok I've watched this thread get dorked up long enough. This idea, which gets thrown around constantly, that if the fans just quit caring that the team would realize the error of their ways and turn it around is a complete fantasy. I'll always follow the Royals, just like I will the KSU Cats. And yes, I'll go LESS and watch LESS when they're bad, but having no fans is hardly a solution. It hasn't really worked for ku football, it won't work for the royals.

Now beat it idiots.
