I really don't think we need to have a firesale to have a good baseball team either. We've got a handful of nice prospects in the organization right now, and I really liked our draft class this year. Billy and James will be off the books next year. Maybe see if you can get something for Guthrie or Aoki in the offseason as well. I would completely gut the rest of the organization though. We've got systemic problems that have made big league success impossible. Need a general manager who really understands the advantages that advanced stats can bring to an organization, because that's the only way a team like the Royals will ever be consistently competitive. Same goes for the coaching staff.

It doesn't get any better for the Royals after their pathetic performance in Boston. They face Chris Sale Monday night in Chicago.

aoki is in the last year of his deal. and nobody is going to want to pay 9 million for guthrie. he's 35 with a FIP of 4.88 and an ERA+ of 90. but i agree with the rest of your post

Between now and July 27, we have 3 with the ChiSox (on the road) and 4 with Cleveland (at The K). By the end of that time (or sometime within that time) we'll know whether our guys are buyers or sellers before the nonwaiver trade deadline. Sad to say it, and hope I'm wrong, but I fear we'll be sellers.

I honestly hope we do nothing. We won't make the playoffs this year, but we can shed some dead weight and make moves during the off season. I'm not holding my breath.

Sadly, you may be right about this season. We'll know, I think, when the Royals open their home series against the Twins next Tuesday.

less than a 20% chance the Royals are sellers at the break.

Yeah, forgot that Aoki was in the last year of his contract, for some reason I thought we had him through 2015. I don't think anyone is taking Guthrie off our hands either, but I would sure as crap be on the phone talking to any club that needs pitching next year.

I want to keep Billy tho. Restructured, of course.

If we trade Shields, it is admission of failure.

Isn't there a chance that Dayton is fired?  This team will not be better next year, because the hitting isn't going to get better.  Sure, the pitching may improve, but so what?  The pitching has been good enough this year.

If Glass fires Dayton, installs the new guy, he can immediately start talking 5 year plan.

I hope they trade everything they can.

My fear is that this team will finish below 3rd in the division and we won't have a thing to show for it.

I know nobody wants to hear this but you have got to trade wade davis while he is hot, that or trade holland. he would bring some very good offers and lets be honest herrera could do what wade does for the most part. you either take him and put him on the block or make him your closer. you essentially have two closers that are very good on the roster but those guys have a three-five year time frame and then fizzle out. strike while the iron is hot with one of these guys

Whatever they do, you can rest assured that after the season is over, we will all look back and decide they made the wrong decision.

Alex Gordon is the face of this franchise. You can't ship him off.
