A 5 foot 11 injured pitcher at the 17th pick.  Fun.

Gordon should have been hitting third since opening day. He's wasted at 5th.

Side note: Alex is approaching at bats exactly how myself and others have been preaching all year. He's absolutely spitting at any pitch that isn't exactly what he wants. It's beautiful.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

LHP from TCU and a high school LHP are the first two draft picks tonight for the royals.

I won't pretend to know much about either but i would assume the hope and plan is that both could eventually be a 4 or 5 in a to rotation with the college guy happening sooner rather than later?

17th pick Finnegan, Brandon   TCU (TX)   LHP   L/L   JR

5'11" 185lbs DOB: 04/14/93
Finnegan was the best winless pitcher in college baseball in 2013, as a lack of run support doomed him to an 0-8 record at Texas Christian. His record wasn't indicative of the quality of his stuff or the way he pitched, however. His stuff has ticked up a notch this spring, and he has been one of the most consistently dominant pitchers in college baseball. Though he's a 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-hander, he can blow his fastball by most hitters. As a starter, Finnegan usually deals at 93-95 mph and reaches the upper 90s with his heater. He made strides with his low-80s slider during the summer while pitching in the Cape Cod League and with Team USA, and it has developed into a second weapon for him. He also uses a changeup, though he could scrap that pitch if he becomes a reliever in pro ball. There's some effort in his delivery, which sometimes hampers his ability to throw strikes and leads to questions about his durability, so the bullpen could be his destination. His stuff could play up in shorter stints and he has upside as a closer.

28th pick Griffin, Foster   The First Academy (FL)   LHP   R/L   HS
6'3" 200lbs DOB: 07/27/95
Under the scouting spotlight in March at the National High School Invitational at the USA Baseball complex, Griffin shined. He threw a three-hit shutout and helped The First Academy take home the championship. Griffin is an advanced left-hander who shows a good feel for his three-pitch arsenal. He throws his fastball in the low 90s with good natural run. His changeup is ahead of his slider at this point but both have a chance to be above-average offerings. He throws strikes with all of his pitches and aggressively pounds the zone. Griffin is a good athlete and has the kind of strong pitcher's body scouts seek.

Lots of lefties for the Royals. Hopefully our luck starts to turn with 1st round pitchers.

College guy sounds like they're hoping will quickly be a 4/5 guy, but national guys saying better chance at being a reliever. Second guy is a big lefty, if he was in most other organizations I'd say sounds like a potential lefty version of Shields.

Good prospects, and Finnegan already knows what it's like to get no run support.

Shouldn't a 1st round draft pick have at least 1 win. I mean they finished ahead of us and I'm pretty sure all out starters had at least 1 win. Good grief  :flush:

Didn't like the Finnegan pick, but don't base your dislike on those kinds of stats.

A lefty that throws mid 90's has 0 wins for a D1 team. Let that sink in. Yeah they had no run support but good god, 0 wins.

40th pick Vallot, Chase   St Thomas More HS (LA)   C   R/R   HS
6'0" 215lbs DOB: 08/21/96
Most of the top catching prospects in this year's Draft stand out more for their offensive prowess than their defensive ability, and Vallot is no exception. He's similar in that regard to fellow Louisiana prep product Stryker Trahan, the D-backs' first-round pick in 2012, though Vallot has a better chance to remain behind the plate. Vallot has a quick swing with a lot of leverage, giving him above-average power. He performed well on the high school showcase circuit last summer, highlighted by winning the home run derby at the Perfect Game National in June. The Mississippi State recruit has a reliable approach and consistently makes hard contact. Vallot's plus arm is a definite asset behind the plate, though he needs to smooth out his transfer and accuracy. His receiving and blocking skills also will have to get better. He moves better than most catchers and should be able to transfer to an outfield corner if needed.

That series felt a lot like taking three of four from the Red Sox last August. This team could be coming together. As long as they can follow Gordon's lead and get choosey with the bats they'll be alright.

2.5 games out of the WC, 4 games back of Detroit.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

8-3, significantly better ERA, opp BA, K, and BB numbers. Stats wise his numbers this year look really good. What I don't like is the questions of his stamina, both as a starter and his ability to stay healthy.
