the Royal's gold glove/3rd spot 1st baseman has 5 errors and 1 HR and a .670 OPS

Game winning RBI tho.

Going tomorrow. I don't like the Vargas vs Wainwright matchup, but Vargas has done everything we've asked of him so far so I've gotta believe in him. I think StL could be absolutely demoralized. I'm hoping the fans are, and decide not to make the trip.

Vargas has been pretty solid dude.

I was a bit skeptical about the Vargas acquisition, but have found him to be an excellent addition to the rotation. He's provided solid starts and is second only in wins (5) among starters to Shields (6). The guy can pitch.

A late evening thought: is there a spot in the starting rotation for Chen when he returns from his rehab assignment?

I don't think so. These guys are pretty solid right now, even considering Big Game's two recent rocky outings. He's in the rote to stay (unless we're out of it in mid-July, at which point I think the brass may move him). Vargas is solid, Guthrie is fine (despite no run support), Duff is figuring things out and doing quite well, and Ventura is too good to be in the pen or at AAA.

I see oscar destined for long relief, and maybe traded in July whether or not we're in the hunt.

they need chen in the bullpen for now.  if any of the starters falter, he's nice insurance as well.  i definitely wouldn't trade him (unless someone offers something nice).

I actually like Chen a lot but I think he's best served as a first out of the pen guy.   Someone  has a terrible start, he's a very solid stretch guy.   Also, he's cool as hell.

Saw the sniffing stuff, and have for a few days. To free up salary space (KCR's main focus, win or lose), and justify such a move ,the Royals would have to move Hosmer (they won't) or Billy, who doesn't have the stats or performance this year to make another club jump on him. I don't see this signing happening, but these guys are also the guys who make some pretty curious personnel decisions.

i could see moore selling off butler and bringing in someone in a desperation move.  if he thinks he's a) about to be fired, b) still has a shot to save his job.

Sounds like I missed the best Royals game since 1985. Sad.

the Cardinals have played in something like 126 playoff games since the '85 world series. The Royals have played in 0.  :frown:

If the Royals can only win 2 more games the rest of the season I hope it is today and tomorrow. We're not making the playoffs so we may as well have bragging rights.

Dumb eff Fescoe thinks we should trade Shields no matter if we're close to the last playoff spot at the trade deadline. "Is it really worth it for one playoff game?" YES YOU DUMB MOTHER rough rider, IT'S BEEN 30 YEARS! :curse:

seems like if we get that wildcard spot, we have about a 50% chance of winning the play-in game.
