really really bad coaching today.  some of those lineups were awful.

aside from the coach, I really liked this team.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I've heard that unless he embarrasses himself in the tournament that it's practically a done deal.

The Athletic reported today that he is a/the top Mizzou target.

If that happens, I'm pro full court press on Team Hoyt.

do you think she would leave osu? her husband is an associate ad there and she’s got good support.

gene absolutely doesn’t make that call.  he’s had enough chances to make similar calls and he went the opposite direction.

i think he doesn’t want to hire someone who might have any connection to k-state that could undermine his position.

A Mean Gene type of hire that I could get behind is the SDSU coach. He's been there forever and guided them from D2 to D1. They make the tourney nearly every year and, unlike some coaches we know, he's actually made it to the Sweet 16. Probably unlikely, but it's a "boring" hire that actually could work (depending on his assistants/recruiting). And, while not a youngster, he's still 8 years younger than Mittie.

Got a buddy in tune with the goings-on of Big XII wbb. Says Hoyt is definitely on Gene's radar and that she would be very interested.  :dunno: He told me about Mittie to Mizzou before anything was circulating on the interwebz.

Maybe it's not a big deal with the portal these days but Mittie is losing Lee and Sundell.  If he wants out, now's the time.

He's also bringing in a top 10 national player and one of the best recruiting classes in school history (rivaling the Koehn/Ohlde and Wecker/Mahoney classes).

That is, of course, unless he steers those kids to Mizzou...

We have the #6 recruiting class and a McDonald's all American being compared to Caitlin Clark. Now is absolutely the worst possible time to lose him.

If he does leave I hope that Hoyt isn't his first call, she's not even the best gettable Big 12 coach we should call. My order is
JR Payne
Lisa Fortier
Kellie Harper
Jacie Hoyt

Fortier would be great, but I assume we'd get outspent by someone (whomever that is) and/or she sees Mark Few and thinks that's a good career path.

Why would Payne bail on CU at this point? I think she's clearly better schematically than Mittie, but her entire career is Rockies and west and you'd think she'd have had other offers the last couple of years.

Harper's probably an upgrade over Mittie, but she's also been fired at two of her last three jobs (NC State & Tennessee). NC State was justified (terrible in ACC play), though Tennessee is/was probably going to be a losing proposition for whoever took the gig unless they make the final four every other year (though she didn't recruit particularly well given the resources at UT). You'd think her eye would be on the SEC job market (Arkansas, Auburn, etc.).

I'm not saying Hoyt's the best choice, but it also represents the opposite of what Mean Gene typically does (boring, safe, semi-high floor, low-ceiling). If you look back at when Mittie was hired, he was coming off four straight seasons where he missed NCAAs and his first two seasons in the Big 12 with TCU were not good (10-26 in conference). But, he made NCAAs more often than not, his wife's from Junction, etc., so there you go.

I guess I'm saying that - if true - Mean Gene pursuing Hoyt is a pleasant surprise.

To be clear, I don't want him to leave.  I just meant that this is the time when a coach would traditionally bolt.  Maybe the quality of the class encourages him to stay but I would imagine part of his negotiation with MU is an expectation of an NIL package to steal some of them.

Good breakdown.
We have better resources, facilities, and we damn near double then in attendance. She and Fortier are two of the gotta ask choices.

I like Mittie but the end of season problems seem to be a pattern.  Now, how much of that is related to Lee's health?  who knows.

He did a good job of adjusting the style when she was out but seems we hit a wall and didn't have an answer.

She's an all american, the leading scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker in school history, despite the injuries she's top 10 in conference history in all those stats as well. She's the all time record holder for points in a game, you know exactly what the impact of losing her is.

People are using the Baylor win last year and the TCU win this year as marks against Mittie instead of using those games to highlight his ability to put together an effective game plan if properly executed.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think they kind of clunked when they did have her healthy but that could be a misremembering on my part.

Yeah, after she came back last year we were not good, 5-5, bear in mind that Gabby Gregory was also injured then, she could barely shoot the ball. Teams just collapsed on Lee and we couldn't do anything to make them pay. Although this team has had some issues shooting the ball lately, her return, although I didn't think she looked great running in that video they released yesterday, should do wonders for spacing and getting open shots for Poindexter, Glenn, and Sides. Our two point guards should focus on other things other than shooting 3s.
