K-State vs. The bottom 3rd of the NBA
« on: October 22, 2010, 01:20:46 PM »
Hypothetical question obviously, but how do you guys think this year's K-State team would do against the bottom third of the NBA teams?

Each division in the NBA has 5 teams, so let's just say we take the bottom 2 teams from each division which would make 12 teams.  K-State plays each of these teams 2 times.

I'd guess that K-State wins half of those games, 12 times they could go out on the floor and not only compete with NBA team, but actually win.

Our frontcourt is on par with all 12 of those teams and is better than at least half of them.

Put on your seatbelt boys, this season is going to be one helluva ride...

Most of those teams would have a "Kobe-stopper" type player that they would try to lock down on Jake but Jake has better range than Kobe and a little better handle so they wouldn't be 100% ready for what he brings.

I think it all depends on whether we get college refs or nba refs.  If Wally gets one extra step to slam dunk, I think you could even go as high as 14 wins.

Franks hard nosed/inyourface type D would give those primadonnas fits.  Wouldn't know what to do w/ a hand in their face for the first time in 3 or 4 years.

What about the game between Beaz's Timberwolves and the K-State Cats!?  :surprised:

We can't deal with Beasley.  He's WAY too talented, but I'd still go 15-18 wins.

6-10 wins would be amazing. I don't think any national championship team ever would win even half.

You are high.  There isn't that much of a difference between top flight college players and those old guys in the NBA.  The lane is wider and the 3 point line further back.  Pretty much the only difference.  KSU wins at least 50%.

This is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). How many top flight college players do you believe our team has that could play significant minutes on an NBA team right now? I say 3, maybe 4.

As we all know, nobody plays defense in the NBA. Our boys would be on those guys like stink on crap, and they would have no answer for it. Meanwhile, Pullen would just keep raining in wide open 3's in transition off of Curtis Kelly and Wally Judge blocks. Cats go at least .600.

Remember in 2003 when the Oklahoma Sooners football team beat the Arizona Cardinals?  It's really not that uncommon.

What about the game between Beaz's Timberwolves and the K-State Cats!?  :surprised:

Beaz isn't nearly as good as he used to be...Curt would get in his face and take away the jumper, force him to drive right and he's got nothin.

Plus Jake's in way better shape than most NBA players.

Indeed, ever since Mario Chalmers introduced him to the pot, he's been no where near as effective.

None the less, leaning on underclassmen for significant minutes  at one of the guard spots I think we'd be hard pressed to win more than 1/3 of our games.

I can't find record of this anywhere. Also, I never said we couldn't beat any of them

How do you guys think our freshmen would respond?  I think Will would handle the pressure pretty well but some of those NBA guards may be a bit physical for him.  Nino has an NBA ready body and would probably not have many issues banging with those NBA SFs.  We may be able to utilize him on mismatches against their undersized wings.

EDIT:  My Will Spradling comment was assuming these were games played right now and not at the end of this season after Will's had a year of getting swoled up by Greeny obv.

sd i agree about the freshman and i think southwell with his enormous wingspan will be able to shut down the other teams best player...i think the real question is who wins between the lakers and the cats in a seven game series...
pg- fisher vs pullen- huge advantage cats
sg- kobe vs whoever we play here- kobe knee is still messed up so i say this is prolly a push
sf -artest vs southwell-their basically the same player but southwell can shoot better
pf-kelly vs gasol-this might be the only spot the lakers have an advantage
c-asprilla vs bynum-again bynum has a bum knee and asprilla has great touch around the basketball
bench-kstate is deeper and has more heart
and of course the ood will kill the staples center

so i think we win the series in 7 but just my opinion  :dunno:

Obviously our defense would create some problems, but the speed and strength of the NBA guys is just too much. Wally had troubles adjusting to the strength of a lot of the better college big men out there last year.

Guys that could match up against the NBA's worst teams' contributors:
Wally
Jake
Curtis
Jamar-This one is even doubtful because he probably isn't strong enough.
