But maybe you're saying poor old KSU can't do any better than hiring a coach with a losing Big East record?

What scares me most is that you might be right!

Slapped.

And the guy was almost .500 in the Big East.  In five years.

If somebody took over Baylor five years ago and turned them into a .500 team (With Texas players no less) in the Big XII would you be impressed?  Leavitt started from a lower point than that.

So, a brand new football program starting from scratch with a losing record in the Big East is scaring you away from a coach that is better than anything KSU is capable of pulling in?    Who the eff do you think is willing to come here?

1)  Big East .ne. Big12
2)  Baylor play(ed)s in the Big 12 South
3)  Almost turned them into a .500 team, but never had a conference season with less than 3 losses

But hey I guess (almost) .500 in the Big East is a big deal to you.  Maybe some almost .500 coaches in the ACC or Mountain West would be an even better fit?

He seems to me to have a low ceiling.  If he couldn't get above .500 smack dab in the middle of recruits, in a weak Big East how will he do that in the much tougher newBig12?   By your logic KU made an amazing hire since Buffalo was even worse off than USF!

you guys obviously don't know crap about the dynamics of Universities in Florida.  USF started as a rough ridin' commuter school.  Imagine Washburn in the running for a bcs football program.

You're obviously a dumbass for thinking this is even close to a legitimate analogy.

Actually, Buffalo was not worse off than USF.  USF literally had no football program prior to Leavitt.  He took them from no program to FCS to CUSA to the Big East and a #2 ranking in FBS in about ten years.  That's pretty goddamn impressive.  Look at other similar programs in FIU and FAU.  Both have similar beginnings to USF yet both are still among the worst teams in the FBS.  Hell, Shellenberger (sp?) started FAU's program and he couldn't do crap with it.  How much success did that guy have with Miami?  Leavitt is likely the best we could get and possibly better than we can get.  Remember all those big name coaches that were supposedly interested in KU, only 2 years removed from an Orange Bowl win?  Who did they end up with?  What makes you people think that a Harbaugh or Tuberville type would choose us when those types scoffed at KU?  But GP and Leach would totally take the KSU job, right?  Buncha retards.

Keep riding that #2 for week in September award for USF.

Is Jim Leavitt a good program builder?  Yes insomuch as he will get you to (almost) .500.  His program saturated at that point.  Rapid rise to .500 and then wham nothing more.  Might as well hire Dan McCarney, he's out of work right now and can do that too.

I think starting a program at WSU might be a better analogy.  USF is pretty big, sin't it?  Helluva lot bigger than Washburn, anyway.

I'm sorry this is upsetting you so much, but I'm sorry  that Washburn (in Topeka KS) and South Florida (in Tampa FL) are vastly different places to build a football program.

I don't think you're quite grasping the fact that every level he coached at  USF was the first time that school had ever played at that level.  How many new programs have winning records right off the bat at the FBS level?  How about when teams move up to the BCS level?  Do those teams typically have winning records and win bowl games in their first 3 years?  No, they don't.  That's why Bama wanted him so badly.
