Nike Team Florida played without Scottie Wilbekin (6-2, 180, Gainesville, FL The Rock School) in its win over Seattle-based Friends of Hoop. Wilbekin will fly in tonight and will be available the remaining three games of the weekend. In his absence, Nike Team Florida split time between Will Cummings (6-0, 160, Jacksonville, FL Providence) and Angel Rodriguez (5-11, 165, Miami, FL Dr. Krop).

Team: Team Florida
Cummings displayed great speed and quickness throughout the game. He played in full attack-mode and got to the rim in transition and from the point in the half-court set. He beat his defender with a quick first step and finished with excellent touch and body control. Cummings advanced the ball on the break and also did a nice job of penetrating and dishing to an open teammate. He has improved his midrange jumper and can even hit an open 3 with needed time and space, but this is still an area that he needs to work on with a sense of urgency. Cummings has shown notable improvement since I last saw him, especially with his shooting. He plays with energy and makes his presence felt on the defensive end. Cummings pressures the ball and is fully alert in the passing lanes. Currently Cummings is hearing from Jacksonville, North Florida, Central Florida, Fairfield, East Carolina and Old Dominion. If Cummings improves, expect this list to grow.

alvarez is really good at the giving ridic quotes & flying out on school visits with players part of his job.  he seems less interested in the taking a group of kids to play bball on weekends part.  i have no idea when the tropics last played in a tourney.

players can switch whenever they want.  sometimes can play for two different teams at the same tourney.  if alavarez ever decides that the tropics should play bball again, i'm sure ar-t will run with them.

this is very painful to read, personally.  i have a large emotional investment in ar-t's success.

Couldn't have gone worse.  One report saying he filled in for a rivals 2-star who couldn't make it and split time with a guy I'd never heard of.  Another report saying that guy I never heard of stood out.  Ar-t might just suck.

My hope was that the evaluator was actually watching Ar-t and was confused.

Rodriguez's summer coach Tom Topping absolutely loves the kid and thinks he's high major all the way.

Two other Nike Team Florida players getting plenty of interest are Chris Bryant (6-8, 185, Tallahassee, FL Rickards) and 2012 center prospect Ty Houghton (6-10, 210, Miami, FL Dr. Krop). Bryant ate up  with 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot while holding Parker to four points. Houghton came off the bench to score six points, grab six rebounds and block three shots.

The fact that we recruited well for one season and decent for another makes going back to sucking ass hurt all the more.  Better to have loved and lost or whatever.
