He shot 64% from the field this year.
64% = within 5 feet of the basket. his 3 point % and # of attempts indicate that he can't shoot.
I've never seen the guy play. I have no idea what his skill set is. His overall numbers looked pretty good (20 pts, 10 rebs, 4 assts), and given what he went through to get to this point, it looks like the guy is someone who would work to make the most of an opportunity given to him.
If his measurements are somewhat accurate, I think we'd be bringing him in as more of a David Hoskins type than an actual perimeter threat. The guy was locked up for four years, so I'm going to assume he has the mental toughness to survive playing for Frank Martin that some of our recent bigs have lacked. The fact that he averages ten boards a game tells me that he's not afraid to get inside and mix it up, which we'll obviously need next year since we're going to be somewhat short on bigs.
So, I don't think we're recruiting Hubbard to be a like-for-like replacement for Jones. I think the staff probably evaluated both, they probably like something about both, and they probably want Jones more. If they have an open scholarship assuming Jones turns them down, I wouldn't be surprised if Hubbard gets a call.
Or, Hell, we could end up taking both if one or two of our current juniors bail. Who knows?
