Have 3 bids in hand.  They are 25k, 28k and 35k.  Waiting on a fourth and will then decide.  At this point it will be hard to beat 28k guys.

A)  They are Mennonites.  I grew up in a heavily Mennonite community and they can carpenter their asses off.
B)  Price (obvious)
C)  25k bid guy did not instill confidence

But, 4th bid people we are waiting on are the "big name" in Omaha remodeling and whatnot.  They told me they would come in equal to or less than our lowest bid and knock it out in less than a month.

Will you invite us all over for ice cream upon completion?

absolutely.  Get your asses to Omaha and you can come.

Oh, also, we are doing a bar.  Just the back bar and upper/lower cabinetry with some tile.  No front bar.  Realized it cost almost nothing when we were already in there.

Don't forget to have them make it all kid-friendly.

The Mennonites are freakish carpenters. My grandfather was planning on building a new big barn one summer but hurt his knee so he hired the 'nites. Came in on a Thursday and were packing up their stuff before noon on Saturday. It was impressive.

Some local SW KS Mennonite carpenters built my parents house.  Did really good work for almost nothing.  They aren't just barn builders either (at least where I was from).  They know what cat6 is about and will tell you where and how to mount your LEDTV.

Are you telling me we can have an ice cream bar (Sundae Bar)? Multiple flavors?

Carpet is one of the better options for a basement, actually.

Mennonites sound like the best option.

I didn't actually know I had another option other than carpet.  Is wood an option in a basement?  Doesn't seem like it should be.  We will have tile over about 1/4 of it but it seems very uncomfortable for the rest.  I'm barefoot 100% of the time i'm in my house.  Dunno, definately open to suggestions.

It's already concrete.  Kind of cold and not fun to walk on.  :dunno:

check out bamboo or cork.  bamboo feels like wood, but doesnt swell/shrink with water.  Cork tile is awesome.  somewhat soft, can finish im a lot of colors, works well with water exposure if sealed, and can be refinished.  both are pretty awesome and woild work well in a basement.

This isn't a kitchen you retards, it's a basement.  It's going to be carpeted.  I live in Nebraska for eff sakes.  The floor will be -40 in the winter.
