CPI (Chingon Power Index)
« on: August 16, 2010, 11:45:42 PM »
Hoo boy!  Well, I personally cannot wait to unveil the CPI for football this season, but alas, the Strength of Schedule component won't have any real meaning until about four weeks into the season :frown:.  To give a little bit of that CPI flavor though, I went through last seasons data and have the final CPI from 2009.  Here is some of that amazing DATA!

If the CPI doesn't make it into the computer polls section of the next BCS reformat...I say we just do away with the whole BCS.

The CPI hates K-State and always has.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

What good is a poll that tells me how good teams were last year (especially in college football)?  I know who won the f*cking games.

Tell me who's going to be good this year.

TIA,
Sugar Dick

This is not a poll.  It is a completely objective measure of merit.  In order to ready yourself for this year, you must first understand last year's results.

I'm not sure there is any understanding to be had within those results. If you could work the teams' primary uniform colors into their rankings, I think you might really have something.

Chingon, I was hoping you could use CPI to help me settle an argument with my friends. Could you run the following through the CPI-machine rank the them in order of superiority.

Waffle Fries
French Fries
Curly Fries
Steak Fries
Home Fries
Potato Wedges
Tater Tots
Hash Browns

TIA

In previous years of the CPI, you've indicated that the predictive capability of "The Index" increases as the season moves along, and increases from week-to-week at a macro level.  However, at a micro level (at the team level) it is subject to anomalies based on match-ups and quirky games.  How predictive do you estimate the first three games will be for KSU?

Excellent question Pete.

It will be pretty much garbage for the first game (no data yet, unless I use last years final data, which is not very good to do) and the second game will be too dependent on the first game.  The third game will be the first prediction that I would put any stock in.

When you have time, I'd like you to think about the predictive value of The Index for Farmageddon, based on each team previous opponents, etc.  I know a few "movers and shakers" associated with this event, and they are VERY interested in The Index as a barometer for this game.

Didn't you subjectively pick the stat categories for the CPI.

How does it factor in players that graduated?  What about new ones?
