Wine Thread
« Reply #250 on: January 14, 2022, 08:27:45 PM »
i get almost all my wines from costco anymore.  selection is a little skimpy, but it's a well curated offering.  wish they had more old world selections here locally.

yeah, same. I'm infuriated with their current omaha selections. last week I emptied out a wine box of something to get one for my cart only to toss it aside after I didn't like any of what I was looking for. mrs dave's daily driver was the decoy cab they had for 2+ years but they don't have it recently only their "red". they still have caymus and prisoner for dinner/cocktail wines at ours. these are almost certainly n00b picks and I have no idea about "old world" stuff. I am a wine low/medium for sure.

BONUS: hyvee has a dependable and robust selection and if you buy 6 bottles you get 10% off your entire purchase and a lot of the time it'll make it equal to costco prices in my experience. the decoy cab for example was the same after they got me 10% back. also they'll run random bizarre specials on good bottles. I got a frogs leap cab 30% off the other day.
I like frogs leap if I feel flush.

I have a bottle of this (not expensive) I've been "cellaring" (sitting in my basement) since we went there and mrs. dave got all hornt about their "sustainable" whatever and the winemaker personally showed us around the entire time and told us about her grand plans to have a farm to table something or whatever and it was a really small personally touch type deal. she kept picking like tomatos off vines and making me chomp into them. I'm tryna' get blackout on wine over here people! my most positive napa valley experience for sure. anyway, she was the divorcee of the frogs leap winemaker (fairly recently when we were there iirc). She told us at the end about it and that they were 50/50 on that but her tiny leavings of incredibly expensive property left me skeptical. Anyway, anyone going to Napa for sure go to Tres Sabores. It was a 10/10 Napa experience which is like a 7/10 Sonoma Russian River experience but STILL GOOD.

I haven’t been to Costco in over a year, but I felt like the selection of French wines got considerably shittier over the years.

You cannot buy wine at Costco in New York, it's the most absurd thing ever.

At this point it’s just a momento. But may crack it open to see if it’s still worth a crap anyway.

I'm seeing unconfirmed reports of some Mod Abuse that allegedly occurred in this thread last night. I am currently trying to confirm.

Poker, slow pitch softball, backing babes, the list is basically endless.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
