Not going to lie, I've been alternating between Sutter Home merlot and cab sauv and liking it just fine. :dunno:

Also, thanks to Bread for his wine expertise.

No, it was a documentary of sorts following 3 wine makers of different operation size for a year from planting to harvest/bottling. Pretty interesting. All of them were very excited about the 2012 vintage after a 3-5 year "depression".

2012 was a near-ideal growing season, with a warm, dry spring fostering early budbreak and trouble-free flowering and grape set. consistently mild summer weather free of rain or unwelcome heat spikes allowed harvest of the grapes at just the right moment with a perfect balance of intense, concentrated fruit flavors and bright acidity.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

new favorite winery:

http://www.tressabores.com/

Julie Johnson and her husband started frogs leap. divorced now and she started this place not far from there. would have never known it was back there because there is no signage or anything near the main road. suggest anyone in the area give them a call and set up a visit.

Drinking this last night and tonight.  Know nothing of Spanish wine, but this is decent.

_FANw and I have started using this for wine: http://us.nakedwines.com/ (don't worry about the name, its completely SFW)

A cool concept, sort of crowdsourcing combined with wine marketing. We like the wines a lot, the interaction on the website with wine ratings and talking to wine makers is kind of cool, and you can get (IMO) good wines for good prices.

my brother in law makes his own wine and they are really good.  he has good equipment, one brew or whatever nets him like 35 bottles of wine.

Sys, waks let’s get this thread back on track.

I have a sub to del dotto wines and get a shipment every 3 months or so, it is a little pricey but free shipping and I really like the cave blend.

Other go to’s

Goru Verde—. Great jammy wine
Zolo Malbec— decent cheap Malbec

I think in manhattan the best values are Spanish/Portuguese Reds and Shiraz, but can also sometimes find deals on champagne as I don’t think many drink moet or bollinger and there are discounts if it isn’t during the holidays.

i get almost all my wines from costco anymore.  selection is a little skimpy, but it's a well curated offering.  wish they had more old world selections here locally.

yeah, same. I'm infuriated with their current omaha selections. last week I emptied out a wine box of something to get one for my cart only to toss it aside after I didn't like any of what I was looking for. mrs dave's daily driver was the decoy cab they had for 2+ years but they don't have it recently only their "red". they still have caymus and prisoner for dinner/cocktail wines at ours. these are almost certainly n00b picks and I have no idea about "old world" stuff. I am a wine low/medium for sure.

BONUS: hyvee has a dependable and robust selection and if you buy 6 bottles you get 10% off your entire purchase and a lot of the time it'll make it equal to costco prices in my experience. the decoy cab for example was the same after they got me 10% back. also they'll run random bizarre specials on good bottles. I got a frogs leap cab 30% off the other day.
