Instead of the GM being the coach's boss, the coach will be the GM's boss. He'll sign whoever Reid tells him to sign.

I think I would like the NFL a whole lot more if there we no GM's and every coach was in charge of drafting his own team and handling contracts.

I would love to be a GM. Sometimes in Madden I would simulate an entire season of games just to get to the juicy off-season moves.

Oh, I agree. It used to be my dream job because I could always put together a super bowl contender after a single offseason. Then I realized that I don't know the right people to ever make that happen, so I embraced reality and got a real job. :frown:

Oh man I did the same thing in Madden.  mocat and Nuts Kicked: if I ever get the chance to be a GM, I'll hire you guys as the head(s) of my personnel department fwiw

I mean it's so simple and all of the dumbass real life GM's just can't figure it out.

Step 1: Trade your first 2 draft picks for a stud who's already in his prime.

Step 2: Trade your third draft pick and somebody who is halfway decent for somebody else who plays the same position and is pretty good. Do this with the rest of your draft picks to make minor upgrades at positions of need.

Step 3: Sit out the loser draft. You are just going to use those other teams as glorified farm systems.

Step 4: Fire every non-starter who you are paying more than $2 million.

Step 5: Use all of the money you save from not having to pay loser rookies in the draft and your loser bench players to go out and sign every single marquee free agent available.

You won't have any young talent to develop, but you won't need any. You get a ton of draft picks every year, so you can just rinse and repeat those 5 steps and you will always be the best team in the league, by far.

At least the Chiefs finally made it official. I like this hire. Now the Chiefs need a good draft. Good season coming, I'd say.

Yeah, its a pretty solid hire.  Short of a homerun like Cowher, this was about as good as it was likely to be.  You find a legit QB and there's no reason to think the Chiefs can't be a playoff team next season.  However, they'll probably end up with a semi decent QB and end up like 8-8.

The Chiefs had the best overall winning % in the 90s.  There's no reason to assume they won't become a winning program again.  Hell, name one NFL franchise that hasn't experienced success in the last 10 yrs.  Buffalo, Cleveland, Miami...  I'm sure there's a few more.  Still, way more have experienced success to a degree than have not.  Stop with the battered wife syndrome.  Pioli can't hurt you anymore, its okay now.

only won 2 playoff games the entire decade and failed to make a single super bowl. chiefs fans love to reminisce about the "glory days" of the 90's, when all they really did was win some meaningless regular season games and then watch teams with real qb's knock their ass out when it counted.

Yeah, I'm not a Chiefs fan, so instead of the battered wife, I'm the Chiefs fan's neighbor that lives in the mansion next door and loves to watch the bank put notices on my neighbor's trailer hoping they will get foreclosed on so someone will buy the land and build a real house on it.

That could be true, I'm not sure if I've met any of them, though. Whenever I'm out that way it seems to be Chiefs county, still.

Yeah, it's pretty fun to follow the Chiefs just so I can have conversations with Chiefs fans. Don't have any emotional attachment to them, though. Makes the entire spectacle pretty great wo witness.

I also think it's funny that everyone in eastern Kansas claims a Missouri team as their NFL team of choice.

Right, so I don't understand all the butthurt when the people in the western part of the state choose to cheer for the Broncos. "Let's see, a team 6 hours away in another state (the Chiefs) or a team 3 hours away in another state (the Broncos). Who should I cheer for?"
