I think Sean Payton could win some with Russ. The beauty is, they'd have to give up more draft picks to get Payton. My Bronco friends are certain Harbaugh is coming to Denver.

I think Russ's ego is about half of his problem and unless a coach can address that, he'll continue to be broken.

I think the Cowboys get bounced immediately and Jones fires McCarthy to get Payton.

Jerry Jones will Jerry Jones, but I don't think Payton is an upgrade from McCarthy.

I absolutely believe that. Payton underachieved with Brees, one of the best QBs to play the game. Both coaches have 1 Super Bowl win, and McCarthy has one more NFC Championship appearance. Both have been head coaches since 2006. Not an upgrade, just lateral at best. Jerry will Jerry though so it will probably happen of McCarthy loses.

Payton has great offenses which are good for TV/tickets. I've also seen him make some unconventional and smart decisions in critical junctures that McCarthy has fumbled. I think Payton is better but winning percentages and playoff winning percentages are fairly similar. Regardless, I just think that Jerry really wants Payton and will do it to keep another team from getting him. Payton would then have Dak (better than Russ) and a lot of organizational control, although he'll probably get that anywhere. The Cowboys could certainly upset the Bucs which would make the decision harder but still wouldn't surprise me.

Don’t forget that Payton was robbed of another Super Bowl appearance by the most egregious and costly pass interference no call in the history of football.

He would also have an additional NFC championship appearance if not for the extremely flukey Minneapolis Miracle.

The man won a Super Bowl with the Aints. No way his career can be considered an underachievement, Brees or not.
