Karlaftis has been awesome down the stretch along with Jones (chicken/egg?)  I think the team/defense as a whole is as healthy as they've been since the season started.

Warranted fear.  He is tied for 35th in FG% (at 75% which is 14% worse than last year) and 31st in XP% (93% which is 3% worse than last year).  Not good for a team trying to get to a Super Bowl.  If he does end up missing some key kicks that end up being the difference in a playoff game, I fully expect the Chiefs to move on from him.

We should move on from him no matter what happens in the playoffs.

I don't disagree.  I'm just not sure if they will without a major reason.  I could see them giving him a pass for his injuries this year hoping he goes back to his 2021 form.

Toub absolutely needs to be gone.  The front office or new ST coach can decide the fates of Tommy and Butker.  I can't imagine a team lost more points than the Chiefs due to special teams this year.

5 Punt return fumbles (T5th worst)
Bottom 10 in punt return yards
2 Kick return fumbles (worst in the league)
75% FG (T3rd worst)
Bottom 5 in kick return yards
Bottom 5 in extra point percentage

Also worth noting is the return where Pacheco (I think) athletically stayed in bounds at the 5 to field a kick before going out of bounds.  Return guys should be coached to put a foot out of bounds on that.

i have some hot takes

- MVS is fine. he set career highs in targets and catches; he was 4 yards away from a new career high in receiving yards. he is exactly what the chiefs paid for.

- butker (w/ townsend holding) is fine. he's 3 of 7 on 50+ attempts; he was 3 of 6 in 2019 and 2 of 4 in 2018 and nobody cared. he's 15 of 17 from kicks under 50, which is exactly in line with his (great) career numbers. on extra points, he went 38 of 41, which is much better than 2020 and basically in line with 2019. last year he was 47 of 49.
i think he was freakish on extra points in 2018 (65 out of 69), and freakish on 50+ field goals in 2020-2021 (he went 11 of 13 on 50+ !!!) but what he's doing this year is more normal.

- the defensive pass rush was better than it seemed last year, and maybe not quite as good as it seems this year?
sacks are noisy, but pressure rate is more stable. they are finishing much better this year, obvs.
2021 pressure rate / sacks: 26.4% (5th in NFL) / 31 sacks (29th in NFL)
2022 pressure rate / sacks: 24.9% (5th in NFL) / 55 sacks (2nd in NFL)

You can't look at overall numbers with Butker, you have to look at the Texans, Broncos, and Seahawks games and admit it was a rough stretch.

Edit: Misremembered how Butker did vs. Broncos.

I think you also have to hold the games Butker voluntarily missed due to COVID against him. He doesn't care about winning.

Whatever on Butker, I'm likely, a little worried but not a ton. Call it 2 clinks on the scale.

HOT TAKE RESPONSES AND ALERTS:

MVS: I doubt he gets a ton of targets in the playoffs if Mecole and Sky are healthy.

PASS RUSH: Not like all time scary but should be able to do enough to get a game changing play or two. Karloftis is really playing well!

My biggest peggy po is it seems like they finally have the roles figured out in the RB rotation and with the extra receivers and TEs. It is clear the problem was CEH all along.

PREDICTION: Watson will have 2 long playoff TDs. It seems like they love him sneaking away getting deep. Homeboy averages 21 YPC! That's really good!

And twice as many drops.

If Hardman and Toney are both on the field, Sky won't be getting many targets either.

Seattle has the fifth pick of the first round, and the fifth pick of the second round this year from Denver….and next year Denver loses their 1st and 2nd round picks to Seattle as well.

That’s almost as bad as completely whiffing on your 1st and 2nd round pick two years in a row. Obviously they are spared a crippling cap hit, but it should still be hard to recover from, shouldn’t it?
