Cinci getting the bigger of the shafts with not rescheduling the game.  If they beat Buffalo, they were #2 and possibly #1 if Chiefs lost.
The NFL is going to wait to see the results of all week 18 games so they know what exactly is still undecided. They have a week to work with between CCG week and super bowl, and it would not be hard to push back the playoffs. They did that after 9/11. I would wager that the NFL wants the game to be played. Not a single game was canceled in 2020

There is no reason for the NFL to announce a plan before this week's games have wrapped up

They'll announce by Friday afternoon. They don't want a weekend of games with speculation on every broadcast about if Bengals/Bills game will be made up or not. Also, those two teams need to know before they play Sunday if they'll have one more regular season game or not. There are a lot of reasons to announce a plan.

They could even release multiple scenarios on Friday like:

If Chiefs win/Bengals lose/Bills lose then _________
If Chiefs lose/Bills win/Bengals win then __________
etc

I just can't imagine them going into 2 national games on Saturday and a full slate on Sunday with nothing in place.

They also clinched the division and locked in at least the 3 seed where a loss to the Bills and Ravens would have dropped them to the 5 or 6 seed.

All of the graphics show:
To get the #1 seed in the AFC: ????

The only two realistic options are to push the start of the playoffs for 1 game (which would inconvenience TV partners and other playoff teams) or to call it no contest and go by winning percentage (which would annoy Bills and potentially Bengals fans).  I think they call it no contest and agree that they need a decision by Saturday.

wut?

there is no way the game will be played tomorrow. buffalo flew back home last night, and Hamlin's condition is going to be critical for at least several days

I'm not ready for all the NFL Russian bot accounts to put an * next to the Chiefs Super Bowl this year and call it a Mickey Mouse Championship on Twitter.  :curse:

You should care less about what people say on twitter.  In my mind the Bills were losing Monday night anyway, at least Vegas thought so at the time the game was called.  But in reality the seeding doesn't matter, we couldn't even hold serve at home last year.  It might do us some good to play without the comfort of home base.

I am good with these solutions, and would def chose having the bye in the first scenario.

The game should be declared no contest and everything should be determined by winning percentage.

The Bills and Bengals can't simultaneously declare that football doesn't matter and football is what matters.

I think the bye is better for the team.  The problem is that 2 additional home games (WC and potential AFCC) is better for the owner's pockets.

Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals all get byes, add 1 more AFC game to wild card weekend and next Monday night Mahomes, Allen and Burrow do a QB skills challenge PPV to determine top 3 seeds with $ going to putting an AED in all possible places.

downside is AfC championship game has to move to open week before super bowl so easy fix is add 2 teams to NFC bracket

more money for NFL and the AEDs will save lives on a large scale

Just kick the 7 seed out of the playoffs and give a bye to the top 2 seeds, like they used to do and should still be doing, anyway.
