If CEH gets hurt the Chiefs are screwed at RB.

The Chiefs have $6M is cap space, bringing him in for the remainder of this season won't hurt anything.

Next season they'll have Damian Williams back to help CEH carry the load.

It'll hurt the cap space that we could roll over into next year, which is likely something we need to do if we want to keep Fisher.

I really don't care one way or the other though.  Le'Veon should be available fairly cheaply to a team that will showcase him well so he can get a contract next year.

CEH is going to hit his rookie fatigue later in the season.  We need to protect him with someone who still provides a threat in the running game.  Chiefs also haven't been great in the 3rd/4th and short game.  Our backups to CEH are really bad.  I'm surprised we are holding on to Darwin Thompson.

I have CEH on a keeper league fantasy team, and am kinda obsessed with him. I watch him the entire time I watch the chiefs offense.  Anyway, he frequently gets hit before he ever gets to the line of scrimmage.  Our run blocking is absolutely terrible.  Just awful.  He could be Christian Okoye and he still wouldn't be getting jack crap behind this line.

I’m still shook that we took a rb in the first round like a clown franchise.  Wtf was that

Why
Darrell Williams is like the worst RB in the NFL by PFF, Darwin is bad, need more than one RB. Worst case he is Lesean McCoy from last year with more tread left on the tires.

I don’t understand the negativity with Chiefs getting Le’Veon.  He is Pro-Bowl talent.  Good players want to play for Chiefs right now.  I’m still convinced we are one major WR injury away from signing Dez Bryant.

Reid isn’t going to get a guy who won’t be a team first person.  We need RB talent on this team for insurance.  If CEH goes down you can kiss a SB appearance goodbye without a legit backup.

At the least, Le’Veon’s talent can make safeties play closer to LOS so we can go deep.

For sure, and I love CEH, just because you get Bell doesn't mean the Chiefs effed up with picking CEH. CEH will be RB#1 hopefully for years, but RB in the NFL is just brutal, and having an sort of a competent backup is a big deal. It's like fantasy when you're top guy goes down.

it's a good signing because you guys are right; we really don't have a viable RB2 at the moment. My fear (as it was when they drafted CEH in the 1st round) is that they will want to run too much on 1st down, when this league, and especially this team, is built as a pass-first space ship. our line is not a run blocking line at all.

leveon should help in short yardage, and i was surprised to look at his stats and see how prolific of a pass catcher he is. he's definitely used to having a classic pittsburgh steelers O line in front of him. his dance around and wait for the hole to develop move is going to be pretty lol to witness when it's mike remmers, andrew wylie, austin reiter, etc blocking for him.

as always, there's no such thing as a bad one year deal.

This is a good take and I agree.  I have noticed we haven't thrown the ball to CEH in the same ways we did with Damien last year (down the sidelines, etc.)  I imagine we will see CEH most of the time, in early down plans, and LeVeon on 3rd downs, or even some plays as a receiver.

The only way this is a "bad" signing by the Chiefs is if they try and force him the ball and not let Mahomes do his thing.

If we're not doing that to Hill or Kelce, I don't see us doing it to a midseason acquisition

Neither of those players are RBs.  I'm talking about how they tried to force CEH into TDs in that first game, rather than just letting Mahomes take 2 or 3 cracks at it.

Yeah, I can see the goal to go situations being a different animal.  We've had to get pretty creative down there so far

i'm more talking about what they do on first down.

2018 1st & 10:
421 total plays
191 rushes
223 pass attempts + 7 sacks taken
= passing 55% of the time

2019 1st & 10:
417 total plays
195 rushes
215 pass attempts + 7 sacks taken
= passing 53% of the time

2020 1st & 10:
127 total plays
65 rushes
62 pass attempts + 0 sacks taken
= passing 49% of the time

10/71 of the first down runs have been Mahomes (25 all last season). That accounts for a couple of the extra runs.  It has not been some drastic shift in early down running overall.
