It's 12 years overall. 10 year extension.
Yeah, so Mahomes' cap hit will be his 5.3m this year, plus 1/5 of whatever his signing bonus is (assuming they spread the signing bonus over the max of 5 years).

Yeah, I get that, I just assumed it was a new 10 year deal when I saw the report.  Depending on the guaranteed $ (which will probably be huge) it seems like a good deal for each side.  Chiefs don't have to sell the rest of their team this season, and Mahomes should be set up for good.

the only way it makes sense for mahomes is if his salary is a set % of the team's salary cap, and not a fixed dollar amount
