Yeah, nothing wrong w/ Smith.  He is an above average QB, so will take.......I suppose those that want to boo Smith would prolly give a standing ovation to our defense? Go re-watch the playoff game again people.....and the last half of the season and watch how awesome the d was...

shut up moron. the D sucks. the 1st half of the year was the most serendipitous schedule anyone has ever seen. 2nd and 3rd string qb's week after week, cowboys and giants playing like dogcrap.. then injuries hit and rivers and manning came to town and we all saw the real chiefs d. they are middle of the road. i dislike both smith and the defense simultaneously. because i'm not an idiot.

The Chiefs have the only fanbase that can be butt hurt after winning 450% more games one year than the last.

you're a broncos fan right chicat?

do you remember those brief years in between elway and manning when such luminaries as brian griese, jake plummer and jay cutler were at the helm?

did certain segments of your fanbase wish against common sense and hope that those guys, mediocre though they were, just might be good enough to get you guys to the super bowl? maybe even good enough to win a super bowl? do you remember thinking that they were idiots (if you are a smart person, you should have been thinking that p.s.)?

now imagine that elway and manning never qb'd the broncos. imagine that you had other dorks similar to the griese's and cutler's for all those years. imagine that your franchise hasn't had a great qb (in his prime) at the helm since like 1970. imagine how beaten down your fans would be, and imagine how many excuses they would make for an average qb. because he is marginally better than the absolute losers that preceded him. imagine that he went 2-6 to finish the previous season and blew a 28 point lead in one half in the wild card. imagine that people still want to sign him to a 5 year deal over the age span of 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36.

it's a sad state of affairs bud. be glad you don't have to suffer our fate.

Not sure what Alex Smith has done to deserve to be booed, except win 11 games last year.  If you don't like the trade for Smith or the inevitable contract extension you should probably boo John Dorsey and Andy Reid.

Blowing a 28 point lead deserves booing where I come from.

I'd boo them too. However 2nd half of the year Houston was injured, and the key too our D was QB pressure, so yeah we collapsed.

The Chiefs have the only fanbase that can be butt hurt after winning 450% more games one year than the last.

Our last playoff win was against the Houston Oilers. And they don't even exist anymore. We have every right to be bitter.

Alex Smith had one of the best playoff performances in a Chiefs playoff game and had a 4 TD lead, before the D pissed it away. He also did this without his little dump off toy, JC. If you can't tell his progression under Reid's offense in the second half of the season, I can't help you.  :)

I like how the D had nothing at all to do with getting that 28 point lead but bears 100% of the responsibility for blowing it.

Yes, that loss is 100% on Andy Reid. He just decided to pack it up when the Chiefs went up by 28. The offense and defense were both complete failures from that point forward.

That play call that led to Cyrus Gray wide open down the sideline was a pretty good one. If the players execute that one correctly, perhaps we win a playoff game.

This is a good retort but the last time the Chiefs won anything meaningful they had a Hall of Famer QB.

I wish people would be nicer to Alex Smith, even if they don't think he's a great QB. He seems like a really nice guy. The world could use more nice people, but maybe we shouldn't pay them outrageous contract extensions either. Life is a balancing act.

They certainly aren't choosing to roll the dice on draft picks for them.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2014/nfl-draft-round-round-quarterback-data

They have Smith at a "good" QB which I agree with, but I also think he may be the bar QBs have to get over to be in that section.  If the Chiefs use a first round pick on a QB every year, on average it will take about 3 years to get a QB that will be better than Smith in the long run, and still not likely to be in the near future.  This is assuming there is a deserving first round QB to be taken and they aren't stretching, like Geno would've been, to get a QB.

If you stick with Smith you won't fail, but you may not succeed wildly.  If you miss on a first round QB, which is likely, you not only fail but you pretty much have to commit to that failure for 3 years as you want to give the QB a chance to be successful.  Then you get to play Russian roulette again using a six shooter with 4 bullets.

Should the Chiefs have drafted a quality QB in the last 20 years?  Sure, but I don't think the past GMs' failures means that Dorsey/Reid need to overrate QBs.  Especially when both have had a pretty successful track record at the position.

How are you coming up with that math? Looking at the chart, I see 18 QBs listed as better than Smith out of a total of 49. That is 37%. Those odds are really good. If you play 37% odds twice in a row, you have about a 60% chance of winning on at least one of those 2 plays. This year would have been the perfect year to take a QB. One of the top college QBs has a bad workout and falls to the bottom of the first round, the Chiefs still have Smith if things don't work out, rookie salaries are fixed now, and the Chiefs still passed on taking the gamble.

I went to one out of 3 since the people who would vote to draft would not put Smith in the good group.

Also, this year I would've been ok with Bridgewater but do not hold it against the team for passing on him. I agree about rookie salaries are a big plus to taking the QB nowadays.

I realize there's some luck to it. But you have to try, and the Chiefs just go with backup after backup after backup. Trade a draft pick for a good team's backup, maybe make the playoffs, lose, rinse, repeat. Been that way for 30 years.
