Macs are cool.  Expensive, but cool.

This is the more sensible option though, imo.  Looks great and 5 hours of battery life.

Only get a Mac if you want be ridiculed by the CIS/CMPEN crowd (will destroy your life)

If you really want to turn heads, get one of these: http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/fully-rugged-laptop-toughbook-31.asp

We have them at work and I have brought one to class a few times, everyone is  when they see it, and battery lasts really really really really long.

If bulletproof computers aren't your style, I would say grab any laptop with an Intel ULV cpu.
you know why people were like  when you brought that thing to class?  here's a hint, it's not because they were impressed.

^This. They are probably all  about how someone who brings a speak and spell to their college classes got into the same class as them.

Will you be traveling with it much? How big and durable do you want it to be?

Well, I'll be taking it to classes if needed and stuff of that nature. But other than that I'm just going to have it to do homework on.

Here is the thing, nobody in this thread knows anything about computers, so when they say get a Mac you should do the exact opposite of that.

What will your homework be? Word docs and porn? Something more demanding?

Open option right now. Most of my classes are history though for the first semester. Doing pre-law too.

Do you have any interest in watching blu ray movies?

Then honestly, it doesn't matter what laptop you get. I would try them all out and get one that has the screen and keyboard you like the most. If you're worried at all about durability with moving it around (I would be), I'd get a Lenovo or something of similar quality. Macs don't have blu ray. The only real benefit with them is the resale value.

If I were to get a new laptop today, I'd get this: http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/notebooks/precision-m6500/pd.aspx?refid=precision-m6500&cs=04&s=bsd

Can't beat the power, the screen resolution, etc.

If you want to love it every time you use it, get a 13" Macbook Pro.  Perfect size, sexy hardware.  The one I have is my first Mac and I love it.

pre-law is pre-stupid.  if you really want to go to law school there are better ways to do it then by studying pre-law.

Good point.  I've always been a little confused about the "pre-law" route at ksu.  I've heard that there's a separate curriculum with a "focus" on law oriented classes, but I've also heard that K-state doesn't have such a thing as a "pre-law" major.

I've considered telling people I'm pre-law just so I don't have to answer the inevitable "are you going to be a teacher or a museum curator" that comes along with telling people I'm a history major

When I was there, pre-law seemed like little more than a resume-filler club anybody could sign up for.  I'm pretty sure there were no requirements before or after signing up.

Gotcha.  I receive some of those emails sometimes because I think I may have signed up for it during my freshman year.

Looks like Dlew is pre-law.

i believe there was a gpa requirement to stay in as of a 08, when i graduated, but i cant remember for sure.  they're also supposed to help keep you on track for things like: lsat prep, lsat sign up, application process, etc.  basically, if you're a procrastinator who has problems making deadlines and properly preparing for exams, then you would probably find it to be beneficial. plus, it's not like it looks bad on your academic resume.
aren't you glad it wasn't you? - g.h.

We support hundreds of HP laptops.  They seem about normal in the break/fix department.

We support them as well. HP's are very easy to fix compared to other brands imo. Only Toshibas were easy in my experience.

Of course, this means nothing to cas, since he knows crap about computers and will just hand it over to Geek Squad if anything happens.
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.
